Amazon has launched a portable reading device called Kindle. With this wireless electronic book reader, Amazon expects to popularise downloading of books, magazines and newspapers.

The $400 device, which can store up to 200 books in its memory is simple to use, it does not need a PC or cables.

You will get the content through wireless connectivity wherever you are. Buy a book an it will be auto-delivered wirelessly in less than a minute, says Amazon.  More than 88,000 books, including 100 New York Times best sellers are available for download.

Amazon also allows you to download and read first chapters for free before you decide to buy the book. You can also download newspapers and magazines on Kindle.
