India's leading commodity bourse--the Multi Commodity Exchange -- on Tuesday launched Commodity Vision, a quarterly journal that aims at generating quality information and research inputs about the commodity segment.

The journal is being brought by MCX Academia of Economic Research, an independent research unit set up by the exchange.

Forward Markets Commission Chairman B C Khatua launched the journal at Indian Merchants' Chamber, Churchgate, Mumbai. Also present on the occasion were Jignesh Shah, MD & CEO of MCX, and Dr Madhoo Pavaskar, Consulting Editor of Commodity Vision and Director of MAER.

A statement from MCX said Commodity Vision seeks to be an independent research journal that aims at improving the understanding of participants in the commodity market. It also seeks to serve the industry by disseminating right information about fundamentals on commodities. Though initial inspiration has come from MCX, eventually the journal will be independent and self-sustaining, and MCX will play the role of a facilitator.

The journal also aims at generating critical debate among scholars, academicians, researchers, politicians, policymakers and intelligent public on the research papers published therein.

"MCX has inspired the launch of this journal with a specific view to providing the industry with the latest research in the commodity sector so as to aid the growth of industry on the right path," said Jignesh Shah, MD & CEO of MCX.

"The commodity sector offers a plethora of opportunities; but for want of reliable information and data and being shrouded in prejudices, this sector still remains outlandish for prospective investors. It is precisely for this reason that MAER has stepped in to remove this obstacle of lack of reliable information," added Mr Shah.

"The journal will contain information pertaining to price analyses and factors that influence price formation. It will be both informative and analytical, besides presenting deep insights into commodities to a host of readers. Each issue will contain a Special Report that will focus on a specific commodity," said Dr Pavaskar.

The statement said the publication will be of interest to all the commodity market participants, including producers, processors, traders, brokers, hedgers, arbitrageurs and speculators who are part of the commodity ecosystem.
