Tata Consultancy Services is planning to open an outsourcing centre in Poland and thereby mark its presence in 34 countries across the world.

The company intends to recruit around 1,500 employees and the centre would specialise in information technology services, apart from outsourcing of accountancy and financial services.

The company was looking at setting up the office in the Kraków area of Poland and as the project was in its infancy, a decision on investments and processes to be undertaken was yet to be taken, sources close to the development told Business Standard in Mumbai on Thrsday. The blueprint of the project was expected to be rolled out in a couple of weeks, they said.

TCS officials did not comment, citing the mandatory "silent period" before the third-quarter results. Industry sources were of the opinion that Poland is a gateway to European nations and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation countries, which could be beneficial for TCS' global operations.

TCS already has a presence in The Netherlands at Amsterdam.

Krakow is keen on attracting Indian expertise to develop an IT park and is seeking the country's participation for major IT projects. Poland is undertaking big IT projects and has announced various initiatives that extend up to 2012.

Poland is an investment-friendly country and corporations in that country can be owned and run by foreign shareholders, with full repatriation of capital and guarantees for after-tax profits and dividend earnings.

The country is also building a new town called "Nowe Miasto" near Kraków, which is to be developed as the new communication hub for the country.

At present, TCS has presence in over 33 countries and employs over 35,000 consultants from 30 nations.

The Tata group company offers a comprehensive range of IT services to clients in diverse sectors like banking and financial services, insurance, manufacturing, telecommunications, retail, and transportation.
