Union Budget likely on Feb 28

The Budget session of the Parliament is likely to begin from February 25 with the Presidential Address to a joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha followed by presentation of rail budget and general budget on February 26 and 28.

The tentative schedule was finalised today by the cabinet committee on parliamentary affairs attended by Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister Shivraj V Patil, Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and Minister of Steel, Chemicals and Fertilizers, Ram Vilas Paswan.

The Railway Budget is proposed to be presented on February 26 followed by tabling of the Economic Survey the next day and the General Budget on February 28, according to Parliament sources.

The first part of the budget session will be up to March 23 to be followed by a three-week break up to April 17 during which parliamentary committees will be meeting, the sources said.

The second part of the session will be held from April 18 to May 13. The exact dates will be finalised at a meeting of the Union Cabinet followed by another meeting the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs, the sources said.
