Fewer tours for ministers now!

The Manmohan Singh government proposes to cut down the provisions for tour expenses of ministers by reducing the budgetary grants.

The budgetary provisions for tour expenses have been put at Rs 47.50 crore (Rs 475 million), which is Rs 32.70 crore (Rs 327 million) less than last fiscal's figure of Rs 80.20 crore (Rs 802 million).

The provision of tour expenses is meant for Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State and former Prime Ministers.

According to the budgetary provision for the ministry of home affairs, the salaries of Cabinet Ministers, Ministers of State and Deputy Ministers remain stagnant at Rs 1.16 crore.

The sumptuary and other allowances have also been left unaltered to Rs 2.10 crore (Rs 2.1 million).

The budgetary provisions for the Special Protection Group, protecting the Prime Minister, has been increased from Rs 97.19 crore (Rs 971.9 million) to Rs 104.19 crore ( Rs 1.04 million).
