Sebi may probe sacking of Britannia MD

June 05, 2003 19:17 IST

Securities and Exchange Board of India said on Thursday that it will look into the issue of sacking of Britannia Industries managing director Sunil Alagh, if it is felt necessary.

"Since Alagh was asked to leave by the company (through a a board resolution), we have not intervened. If necessary, we will look into it," Sebi chairman G N Bajpai said, when asked about the role of the regulator in the incidence of promoters firing the MD of Britannia Industries.

Alagh was sacked in Mumbai on Wednesday after the Britannia board passed a resolution to "terminate his employment with immediate effect".

Alagh had been reportedly in the midst of a storm due to his differences with the company's promoters Nusli Wadia and French consumer products major Dannone.
