Thrilling? Sex OUTSIDE the bedroom

Gayatri Parameswaran explores the concept of spicing up your sex life by taking 'calculated risks'.

I'm told sex outside the bedroom is exciting. Have any of you tried it? If not, you should -- at least that's what a friend of mine thinks.

"Sex is great anyhow. But once you've been a relationship long enough, it gets monotonous, so you need to spice things up a bit. And getting out of the bedroom can be a start," she told me.

Boring sex

But I wanted to know what could make sex boring in the first place?

"If you're following the same routine every day for months together, it will become exactly that -- a routine," she said. "It's like having cornflakes for breakfast every day. You need some change every now and then, don't you?"

Fair enough. Cornflakes, cornflakes and more cornflakes could make life monotonous. So what did she suggest?

"Spice it up a little. Some idli, dosa, croissants and toasts," she said. The analogies were getting weird. I needed more clarity.

She explained patiently: "There are so many simple ways to spice up sex. You start with different positions. But what about when you know the Kama Sutra like the back of your hand? Then you need to push yourself further. What I have been doing lately is changing locations and environments."

As impressive as that was, I wondered about how discomforting the lack of a private space would be. What if you're both in the kitchen, getting it on and the postman rings the doorbell or your roommate walks in on you? That wouldn't be much fun. That would just be embarrassing.

"Look, it's not about taking silly risks. You need to calculate it and that's part of the whole thrill," she tried convincing me. "It's such an adrenaline rush. It's like bungee jumping. Pleasure and nerves at the same time."

She was daring, I thought. I was figuring out the extent of her sexual exploits. How far had she gone? "Oh, everywhere! Every corner of the house is done. But I also like taking it outside the four walls of the house. It's risky and not meant for all. But I've tried rooftops, elevators, some university washrooms, parks, trains, buses, beaches..." she went on.

Wow! How had she managed that without being caught? "Well it's about experience. I've had a few narrow escapes. But luckily never been caught so far. At the end of the day, it's about teamwork, you know," she winked at me.
