India's top 25 B-schools of 2011, ISB-Hyd topples IIM-A
The Week magazine recently announced the results of their annual business school survey for the year 2011.Interestingly, Indian School of Business-Hyderabad leads the list ahead of the prestigious IIM-Ahmedabad which is ranked at number two, followed by IIM-Bangalore and IIM-Kolkatta ranked at three and four respectively.
The survey conducted by data provider MaRs (Monitoring and Research Systems Private Limited) is based on information received from multiple sources including data from over 800 management schools in India, besides survey responses from recruiters, students and alumni, consulting websites and online data sources.
Reportedly, the survey responses from the questionnaire sent to management schools rated the schools based on four prime dimensions, namely:
Input value: Parameters considered to assess input value comprised quality of entrance test, number of students with work experience, international students and students from other states.
Value addition: Attributes considered included international linkages, industry visits, visits of industry professionals to the school, profile and strength of the faculty.
Learning ambience: Attributes included infrastructure, IT and library facilities, industry-student interaction and conferences held in the school.
Brand value: the attributes included tie-ups with foreign universities, campus placement, average salary, profile of corporate visitors and profile of recruiters.
Also inputs from recruiters and human resource professionals were taken into consideration to arrive at the top 40 list of schools.
As for business schools like Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore, Indian Institute of Management -Lucknow, FMS-Delhi, Indian Institute of Technology-Mumbai, Narsee Monjee, Mumbai and Symbiosis, Pune that did not participate in the survey, the recruiters' scoring was the basis after the scores were normalised with other schools.
Mumbai and Delhi lead the top 25 list with six schools from each city.

1. ISB Hyderabad
Leading the list is Indian School of Business-Hyderabad ahead of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management- Ahmedabad.
Founded in the year 1996 by Rajat Gupta and Anil Kumar, ISB-Hyderabad is associated with leading international business schools including London Business School, MIT Sloan and Fletcher School.

2. Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad
On second place is the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
Established in 1961, the institute has been providing the best of faculty members in the field of management in the country.
It has a 100-acre campus and enrolls about 800 full time students and 1500 executives across 300 courses.

3. Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore
On third place is the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
Established in 1973, IIM-Bangalore is best known for its research facilities and has an excellent team of faculty members and department heads.Interestingly, the college campus was used for the shoot of the Hindi film 3 Idiots starring Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor.

4. Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata
IIM-C was established in the year 1961 as the first Indian Institute of Management in the country.
An institute par excellence, the institute is known for its extensive facilities and activities in the field of research and consultancy.

5. Xavier Labour Relations Institute, Jamshedpur
On fifth place is Xavier Labour Relations Institute, Jamshedpur.
Established in the year 1949, nearly two years after the country's independence, it is one of the oldest educational institutes imparting professional education to students.
Students are admitted to XLRI based on their performance in the Xavier Aptitude Test.

6. Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai
Interestingly, it also leads the list of b-schools in Mumbai ahead of SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai.
Established in 1981, JBIMS is also known as Mumbai University's Department of Management Studies in Mumbai.
JBIMS alumni are known to hold leading positions both in India and abroad.

7. Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode
It was established in the year 1996 and moved to its current campus in Kunnamangalam in 2003.
Interestingly, IIM Kozhikode holds the credit for being the first Asian institute to offer a distance learning programme in management for working executives.
The programme is called Interactive Distance Learning. It currently has an enrollment of about 650 graduate students and 15 doctoral students.

8. SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai
On eighth place is the SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai.Established in 1981, it is an autonomous institution and also one of the few Indian management institutions to have international branches in Singapore and Dubai.

9. Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow
On ninth place is the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow.
Established in the year 1984, IIM-L has a 185-acre campus and enrolls well over 700 students annually in its various post graduate programmes.
Its linkage with industry bigwigs makes it an excellent learning platform for management development learners.

10. Indian Institute of Management, Indore
On tenth place is the Indian Institute of Management, Indore.
Established in 1998, it is known to have the largest campus in the country among all the IIMs -- an area of 193 acres.
The institute offers a conducive learning environment to students and believes in imparting experimental education.

11. Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi
It was started in 1963 by the Government of India to professionalise the study of foreign trade management and its various facets and thereby facilitate better trade relations with neighbouring nations.
Admission to IIFT is based on the students' performance in the IIFT entrance exam.

12. NITIE, Mumbai

13. Institute of Management Technology Ghaziabad, Delhi
Institute of Management Technology Ghaziabad, Delhi is ranked at number 13.
It was established in the year 1980. It has a 14.7 acre fully residential campus and conducts programmes at post graduate, doctoral and executive level.
IMT Ghaziabad has an annual enrollment of about 540 post graduate students and 15 doctoral students ably supported by a staff of about 80 faculty members.

14. Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies, Pune
Established in the year 1993, it was conferred the deemed status by the Government of India in the year 2002.
Today, it caters to 45,000 students (also includes international students) across its 37 institutes.
15. TA Pai Management Institute, Manipal
TA Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), Manipal is ranked 15.
Established in 1980, the institute is named after its founder, Late Shri. T. A. Pai.TAPMI has collaborations with Sheffield Hallam University, UK; Asian Institute of Management (AIM), Manila and School of Management, Asian Institute of Technology(AIT) for student and faculty exchanges.

17. Management Development Institute, Gurgaon
MDI Gurgaon was established in the year 1973 with the active support of Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI) to offer .
Spread over 37 acres of land, today, it is counted among the most prestigious management colleges in Northern India.
MDI Gurgaon boasts of 75 faculty members and has collaborations and tie ups with various international institutes of education as well.

22. PSG Institute of Management (PSG IIM), Coimbatore
The institute was founded in the year 1951 by G.R.Damodaran and is counted among the oldest institutes in Southern India.
PSG IIM currently offers about 48 full time and part time programs across Science, Engineering and Management at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels.

25. Amity International Business School, Noida, Delhi
AIB is a privately held business school but is an active member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)and Association of Commonwealth Universities.
Among the bodies that approve its courses include Bar Council of India (for law programs), Council of Architecture (architectural programs) and National Council of Teachers Education (educational programs.
Interestingly, the school has sponsorsed two cricket teams in the Indian Premier League, namely Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals.
