With a price tag of Rs 2.5 lakh, Honda's latest is all spiced up to take on the upcoming Yamaha R25, Hero HX250R, KTM RC 390, Mahindra Mojo, Hyosung GD250R and Kawasaki Ninja 300

Honda is likely to commence sales of the much awaited CBR300R from this July.

The Honda CBR250R was launched in 2011 and immediately became an enthusiast's favourite as there were very few alternatives in that segment. Now with competition popping up all over the place, Honda has chosen to update the CBR250R, which now gets a bigger motor, improved styling along with a new name, CBR300R.

Honda will replace the CBR250R with the CBR300R in most markets. While the changes will be made to the existing CBR250R, selling it in markets where government norms make a 250cc bike easier to sell is a better option, as they are taxed lower.

We in India will however get the CBR300R later this year.

For some reasons, the automaker had earlier delayed the launch of the CBR300R globally but now the company will start sales in July, with Australia being the first market to get this new motorcycle.

The Honda CBR300R resembles the company's flagship litre-class bike, the CBR1000RR Fireblade.

The 300cc CBR gets twin headlights and looks very attractive, much more than the old CBR250R, whose styling was inspired from the VFR1200F.

The bigger news is the motor powering the CBR300R.

Honda has re-bored the old 249cc mill of the CBR250R, resulting in 286cc of displacement.

The single-cylinder unit outputs 30.4 BHP of power and 27 Nm of torque. It gets a remapped fuel injection system and a new exhaust as well, both of which should result in sharper throttle response.

The Honda CBR300R gets telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock, Honda likes to call it a pro-link setup.

Braking performance will be taken care by a 296 mm single disc at the front and a 220 mm rear disc, with the option of Honda's fantastic C-ABS on the top variant.

The bike is also 8 kg lighter than the old CBR250R, resulting in improved mileage and dynamics.

Honda offers the CBR300R in three colours -- red, black and tri-colour. When launched in India, the CBR300R will be priced at Rs 2.5 lakh.

It will compete with the upcoming Yamaha R25, Hero HX250R, KTM RC 390, Mahindra Mojo, Hyosung GD250R and Kawasaki Ninja 300. It will be manufactured in India, being Honda's top rated locally made bike till the CBR650F arrives next year.
