Biking: Hero launches 2014 Super Splendor and Glamour

Hero MotoCorp continues to update its products, albeit silently, to take on competition from Suzuki Slingshot, Honda Shine and TVS Phoenix, says Faisal Ali Khan of MotorBeam.com

Hero MotoCorp has turned aggressive in the Indian market. India's largest automaker is under serious threat from ex-partner Honda, who is expanding its product portfolio and boosting its reach in India.

To counter Honda, Hero has gone on a product onslaught, which starts with an update of existing products first, followed by all new products later.

The Hero Glamour is available in two versions: standard and FI.

The Hero Glamour is powered by a 124.8cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which generates 9.1 PS of power at 7000 RPM and 10.35 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM, coupled to a 4-speed gearbox.

The Glamour uses telescopic forks at the front and a 5-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorber at the rear.

The Glamour has been priced from Rs 63,550 for the base variant while the top-end variant with fuel injection is priced at Rs 73,750 (all prices are on-road Mumbai).

Hero has also updated the Super Splendor, again a 125cc motorcycle like the Glamour.

While the dimensions of the Super Splendor remain identical to the old model, Hero has made changes to the colours (six shades in total) and body graphics along with revising the instrument cluster and giving the world's highest selling motorcycle brand a side stand indicator.

The 2014 Super Splendor also gets black coloured alloy wheels.

The bike is powered by an air-cooled 124.7cc single-cylinder engine which belts out 9.12 PS of power at 7000 RPM and 10.35 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM, matched to a 4-speed gearbox. Top speed is rated at 90 km/hr.
