What: Announcement for the Combined Defence Services Examination (II), 2008 [Including SSC (Women Non-Technical) Course]

Details of the examination
Date of Examination: September 14, 2008

The Union Public Service Commission will hold the Combined Defence Services Examination (I), 2008 for admission to Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy and Air Force Academy for the courses commencing in July, 2009 and Officers Training Academy, Chennai for the Courses (Men and Women} commencing in October, 2009.

Salient features of the examination are published herein for general information of candidates. For details regarding the Eligibility Conditions, Syllabus and Scheme of the examination, Centres of examination, Guidelines for filling up application form etc aspirants must consult the Detailed Notice of the examination published in the Employment News/ Rozgar Samachar dated April 19, 2008.

Eligibility
A) Age limits, sex and marital s
tatus:

i) For Indian Military Academy: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than July 2, 1985 and not later than July 1, 1990 only are eligible.

(ii) For Naval Academy: Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than July 2, 1987 (July 2, 1985 in case of NCC Naval Wing C Certificate holders) and not later than July 1, 1990 only are eligible.

(iii) For Air Force Academy : Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than July 2, 1986 and not later than July 1, 1990 only are eligible.

(iv) For Officers' Training Academy (SSC Course for Men): Male candidates (married or unmarried) born not earlier than July 2, 1984 and not later than July 1, 1990 only are eligible.

(v) For Officers' Training Academy SSC (Women Non-Technical) Course: Unmarried women, issueless widows who have not remarried, and issueless divorcees (in possession of divorce documents) who have not remarried are eligible. They should have been born not earlier than July 2, 1984 and not later than July 1, 1990.

Educational qualifications
(i) For Indian Military Academy and Officers' Training Academy: Degree of a recognised university 
or equivalent.

(ii) For Naval Academy : BSc (with Physics & Mathematics) or Bachelor of Engineering.

(iii) For Air Force Academy : Degree of a recognised University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering.

Candidates who are studying in final year Degree Course and have yet to pass final year degree examination or equivalent examination can also apply for the Examination, but they will be required to submit proof of passing by the specified dates published in Commission's Notice for the Examination.

Physical Standards
Candidates must be physically fit according to the physical standards for admission to Combined Defence Services Examination (II), 2008 as given in Appendix-V of Commission's Notice for the Examination published in Employment news/ Rozgar Samachar dated April 19, 2008.

Application form
Candidates must apply in the Common Application Form devised by the Commission for its examinations, which can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/ Post Offices (specified in Appendix-lll of the Notice) throughout the country against cash payment of Rs 20/-. Each such Form can be used only once and only for one examination.

In case of any difficulty in obtaining Application Forms from the designated HPOs/POs, the candidates should immediately contact the concerned Post Master or UPSC's "FORMS SUPPLY MONITORING CELL" by calling (011) 23389366 or sending a fax to (011) 23387310.

Fee
Rs 100/- through Central Recruitment Fee Stamp only. SC/ST candidates are exempted from payment of fees. (OBC candidates are required to pay full fees).

Address and last date for receipt of applications
All applications must reach the "Secretary, Union Public Service Commission, Dholpur House, Shahjahan Road, New Delhi -110069" either by hand or by post/ speed post or by courier, on or before the May 19, 2008.

However, in respect of candidates residing abroad or in certain remote areas specified in the Notice the last date for receipt of applications by post/speed post only (not by hand or by courier) is May 26, 2008.

Facilitation counter and webiste for guidance
In case of any guidance/ information/ clarification regarding their applications, candidature etc candidates can contact UPSC's Facilitation Counter near 'C' gate of its campus in person or over at these numbers (011) 23385271/ 23381125/ 23098543 on working days between 10 am to 5 pm.

Candidates may also visit the Commission website: www.upsc.gov.in to obtain details of the examination as well as information about registration of their applications, venue of the examination and results etc.
