We continue our reader-driven series on great restaurants and eating places across the country.

Suchitra Kulkarni recommends United Westend in Delhi for scrumptious Amritsari Machchi.

A fine dining experience, variety of cuisine, delectable food and generous portions -- one gets all this and more at United Westend in Punjabi Bagh.

Located in west Delhi, United has become quite a favourite since it opened a few years ago. A spinoff of the United Restaurant in the hallowed Connaught Place area in Delhi, it has maintained the style and standard of the old and fused it with contemporary cuisine.

Situated in the busy Central Market in Punjabi Bagh, it is just off the Ring Road, near the flyover.

United Westend is also the only restaurant in the west Delhi area to serve a range of continental, Mexican, Italian and Oriental cuisine which is otherwise available only in restaurants of 5-star hotels and stand-alone speciality restaurants in South Delhi.

The restaurant offers a fairly wide choice. The clientele being mainly Punjabi, the tandoori section is obviously loaded.

While the Tandoori Chicken (Rs 145/ 195) is an obvious favourite with most patrons (including my daughter), my spouse and I personally found the Amritsari Machhi (Rs 185) to be just as enjoyable and scrumptious.

The vegetarians have nothing to fear as there are enough dishes for their palate from the standard paneer to shabnam curry. Accompaniments include biryanis and pulaos and crisp rotis, parathas and kulchas.

In the Continental section, a family favourite is the Tomato Fish With Vegetables (Rs 180).

They also have a great bar with an extensive choice of drinks, cocktails and mocktails.

Apart from the good food and the fairly large portions, United Westend offers a relaxing ambience and attentive service.

It is a great place to bring your family and friends for an evening out without having to worry about the parking and the bill!

An elaborate meal for two would cost around Rs 600 without the liquor. However, the seafood (read prawns) comes at around Rs 345 per dish!

I highly recommend the place for its ambience, service, accessibility, and of course the food. So do check it out guys!
