A fine half-century from David Warner and superb bowling from their pace bowlers lifted Sunrisers Hyderabad to a 15-run victory over Mumbai Indians in the 20th match of the Indian Premier League, in Dubai, on Wednesday.

- Scorecard

After being put in to bat, Hyderabad posted a healthy 172 for five courtesy Warner's 51-ball 65. He put on 111 runs for the third wicket with young Lokesh Rahul, who scored 46.

In reply, Kieron Pollard threatened to take the match away with a quickfire innings of 78 from 48 balls, but Mumbai's disappointing performance with the bat continued as they finished on 157 for seven and suffered their fifth straight defeat in the tournament.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2-17), Dale Steyn (2-20) and Irfan Pathan (2-10) shone with the ball for Sunrisers, who registered their second victory in five matches.

Earlier, Zaheer Khan gave Mumbai Indians the breakthrough in the third over, claiming the wicket of Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Shikhar Dhawan.

After being smashed for a boundary, the pacer had his revenge by inducing an edge from the batsman and Harbhajan, at first slip, made no mistake with the catch.

Dhawan was out for 6 and Hyderabad were 21-1.

Zaheer went on to effect a double break as he dismissed Aaron Finch in his third over. The right-hand batsman tried to slam the ball over the off-side but was caught in the covers by Ben Dunk.

Hyderabad were in a spot of bother at 38 for two after five overs.

David Warner and Lokesh Rahul then teamed up and started the repair job. The former took time to settle down, but once he got into a rhythm scored briskly.

He hit four sixes and just one four in his 51-ball 65 before departing towards the end of the Sunrisers innings.

Trying to switch-hit Corey Anderson in the 19th over, Warner got an edge and was caught behind by wicketkeeper Chidhambaram Gautam.

Pollard's heroics in vain

Kieron Pollard and Ambati Rayudu rallied Mumbai Indians, putting on 77 runs from 57 balls for the fourth wicket before the latter was dismissed for 35 by Irfan Pathan.

Pollard, however, continued to fight despite losing partners. It seemed he would take Mumbai through as he took on Amit Mishra, taking 19 runs from the 13th over, the bowler's third.

He repeated the does when Mishra came back for his final spell in the 17th over. 27 runs came from it and Mishra finished with expensive figures of 54 runs in four overs.

With Mumbai needing 20 from the final over and Pollard on strike, Irfan Pathan was handed the ball. And he struck immediately.

Bowling from round the wicket, he sent down a full incoming delivery which Pollard dragged back on to his stumps.

The big West Indian walked back after a superb innings of 78 from 48 balls, including three fours and six sixes.
