** The John Davies Oval at the Queenstown Events Centre became international cricket's latest venue. It became the 144th ground to host a LOI, and the tenth international ground and 9th city/town in New Zealand to do so. Incidentally, Wellington became the only New Zealand venue to host LOIs at two different grounds.
** Parthiv Patel became the 148th player to appear in LOIs for India.
** At 17 years and 301 days, Patel becomes the fourth youngest Indian to appear in a LOI match after Sachin Tendulkar (16 years, 238 days in 1989), Maninder Singh (17 years, 222 days in 1983) and Harbhajan Singh (17 years, 288 days in 1998).
** However, Patel becomes the youngest to keep wickets in LOIs. He betters the previous record of Zimbabwean Tatenda Taibu who was 18 years and 40 days when he kept wickets against the West Indies at Harare on 23-6-2001. For the record, Ajay Ratra was the previous youngest Indian keeper before Patel. He was then 20 years 37 days when he kept wickets against England at Kolkata on 19-1-2002.
** Andre Adams playing in his 17th match recorded the joint second best bowling performance (5-22) by a New Zealand bowler in LOIs. Former left-arm spinner Matthew Hart also had identical figures of 5-22 against West Indies at Goa on 26-10-1994. However New Zealand's best still remains as the 6-25 by teammate Scott Styris at Port of Spain on 12-6-2002. Incidentally, Adams previous personal best was the 3-13 against England at Wellington on 16-2-2002.
** Adams now has the best figures by a Kiwi bowler against India bettering the 5-23 by former left-arm pace bowler Richard Collinge at Christchurch on 21-2-1976.
** New Zealand's win with 146 balls to spare was its best against any Test playing nation, bettering the previous largest win of 139 balls to spare which also came against India in the third match of this series at Christchurch on New Year's day. For the record, New Zealand's all-time best win came against Scotland at Edinburgh on 31-5-1999 when the former won with 193 balls to spare.
** This was the only third time New Zealand have won four matches in a row against India. They had won four in a row from 14-6-1975 to 13-6-1979 and from 10-1-1981 to 15-2-1981.
** This defeat was India's fifth in a row since its loss to West Indies at Vijayawada on 24-11-2002. This has been India's worst sequence of defeats since its seven defeats in a row from 7-3-1989 to 15-10-1989.
** This had been Adams' second man of the match award of his career. His previous such award came against England at Wellington 16-2-2002.
