India beat world champions Australia by three wickets for their second successive victory in the Quadrangular women's one-day international tournament in Chennai on Friday.

In another match, New Zealand scored a 19-run victory over England.

Both India and New Zealand are unbeaten, with eight points each.

Electing to bat, Australia scored 213 for 8 in 50 overs. The home side cruised to the target, scoring 215 for 7 in 49 overs, thanks to an unbeaten 104 by opener Jaya Sharma, who was rightly declared woman of the match. She became richer by Rs10,000.

The Aussies were tottering at 163 for 7 before the eighth wicket pair of Lisa Sthalekar (87 not out 7x4), a player of Indian origin, and Kirsten Pike (17-2x4) added 45 valuable runs.

Priti Dimri (3/46) was the chief wicket-taker for India.

India lost wicket-keeper opening batswoman, Karuna Jain for 21, and then two quick wickets fell (3/63), but Jaya and Hemalata Kala (18-3x4) resurrected the innings, putting on 56 runs for the fourth wicket off 63 balls.

In the other match, Sarah Tsukigama scored an elegant 78 (7x4, 4x6) while opener Maria Fahey made 50 (8x4) to help the Kiwis post 291 for 6.

England were dismissed for 272 in 48.2 overs.
