Miandad and Sohail at odds again

Pakistan coach Javed Miandad and chief selector Aamer Sohail have clashed in a dispute over selection before the one-day series against New Zealand.

The dispute was sparked by selectors announcing a pool of players for this month's series without taking captain Inzamam-ul-Haq or Miandad into confidence.

"We try to discuss things with them as much as possible. But we don't need to talk to them every time we select. All the selectors are former cricketers and understand the intricacies of the sport," chief selector Aamer Sohail told Reuters.

But Miandad said that there was a need for the captain and

coach to be consulted and their views heard by the selectors.

"Why this insistence on trying to ignore and snub us. What is wrong if they just discuss things with us," Miandad said.

Sources close to Miandad said that he was upset after he and Inzamam found out about the squad for the New Zealand series from television.

Miandad and Sohail were also at odds in the press during the recent series against South Africa after the chief selector took a swipe at coaching methods.

The Board Chairman Tauqir Zia had to intervene to diffuse the row.
