Miller, who took 170 wickets and scored 2,958 runs in 55 matches before retiring in 1956, died on Monday near Melbourne, aged 84.

"Keith Miller was one of the greatest sportsmen our state has produced," Bracks said of Miller, who played for Victoria before later captaining New South Wales.

"I'm sure many Victorians will want to join together in celebrating his life," Bracks added in a statement.

"Whether representing his country on the sporting field, or as a fighter pilot in World War Two, he always displayed outstanding character and humanity."
