Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor decorated former cricketer Kapil Dev with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after the latter voluntarily joined the Territorial Army during a ceremony in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The former cricketer has been roped in to join the Armed Forces by the Territorial Army (TA), which is celebrating its 59thanniversary this year.
The 1983 World Cup winning captain joinedas an honorary officer. He donned the Army uniform at the glittering ceremony.
While Kapil will not take part in the rigorous training, hewill palpably act as a brand ambassador for the Armed Forces.
Kapil's wife Romi Dev and daughter Amiya Dev were also presenton the occasion.
