Skipper Sourav Ganguly has set his sights high.

The prince who became king

Addressing the press in Kolkata on Tuesday, the 31-year-old said he hopes to lead Indian to the World Cup in 2007.

"We would have loved to win the 2003 World Cup. But it was not to be, though we made it to the final. Now, we will give it a try in 2007," Ganguly said.

Ganguly said he was enjoying his stint at captaincy

Ganguly said most of those doing national duty now, would be around when India embark to the West Indies for the next World Cup.

"Considering the age of the current team members, I don't think many of them will miss the next World Cup," Ganguly told Aaj Tak.

Ganguly, however, admitted that at times the goings have been tough. "Sometimes it was hard. But then when you are at the helm of a national side, that's how things are bound to be," he said.

But the dashing southpaw said he has no regrets or complaints about the way his career has progressed.

"So far, God has indeed been kind to me," he said.

Ganguly, who has already begun physical conditioning ahead of the home series against New Zealand in October, said all his teammates had started working hard to give a good account of themselves.

"The team played very well in the last season. Now, we have to maintain our consistency," he said.

Ganguly said the county stints of reliable middle order bat Rahul Dravid and fluent strokeplayers Mohammed Kaif, Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag would make them better cricketers.

"They have got an opportunity to improve. I feel by the time the next season starts, they will become better cricketers," he added.
