India scored a comprehensive eight-wicket victory over Australia [ Images ] in the opening Test at the MA Chidambaram stadium, in Chennai, on Tuesday to take a 1-0 lead in the four-Test series.
The result, besides helping start the new year on a winning note, also made up somewhat for the embarrassment against England [ Images ] last year.
MS Dhoni [ Images ] led from the front with a record-breaking 224, while R Ashwin, playing in his first Test on home ground, finished with match figures of 12 for 198, a significant contribution to the Indian cause.
With three more Test matches to be played, in Hyderabad, Mohali and Delhi [ Images ] respectively, will this win spur Team India to further success?
Or, will Australia, led by the ever-dependable Michael Clarke [ Images ], bounce back?
Discuss the first Test, with India Abroad's Bikash Mohapatra on Rediff ZaraBol at 14.45 IST.
