England Lions warmed up nicely for their stint in the Duleep Trophy tournament, defeating Mumbai XI by 30 runs on the last day of their three-day tie at the Brabourne stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.

Lions set Mumbai 261 to win and then stopped the home team at 230 through their trio of medium pacers, led by Charlie Shreck.

Shreck claimed four wickets, Steve Kirby got three and Test bowler Liam Plunkett snapped up two to stop Mumbai in their tracks.

Mumbai were kept in the hunt by diminutive Omkar Gurav, who struck 46, inclusive of six fours and a six, before he was the last batsman out.

The hosts, who slumped to 48 for 3, were revived by Aditya Tare (39) before plunging to 110 for five and then 188 for nine.

Earlier, India under-19 bowler Dhaval Kulkarni grabbed five for 33 as England were shot out for 114 in their second innings after taking a first innings lead of 146 runs.

Jonathan Trott (34) and Joe Denly (30) were the only batsmen to reach the 30s.

England now travel to Vadodara to play their first match in the Duleep Trophy league against Central Zone from February 3.

Scores: England 311 and 114 (Joe Denly 30, Jonathan Trott 39; D Kulkarni 5 for 33, U Malvi 3 for 34) beat Mumbai XI 165 and 230 (Aditya Tare 39, Abhishek Nair 32, Omkar Gurav 46; L Plunkett 2 for 65, C Shreck 4 for 52, S Kirby 3 for 12).
