England all rounder Andrew Flintoff and South Africa batsman Jacques Kallis were named joint winners of the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy on Tuesday as the international cricketer of the year.

The pair finished level on 86 points after being short-listed along with Shane Warne, his Australian team mate Glenn McGrath and Pakistan's Inzamam-ul-Haq for the sport's most prestigious individual award.

Kallis, who was also named international Test player of the year, scored 1,497 runs at an average of 71.28, with six hundreds and eight half-centuries, during the 12-month voting period which ended on July 31.

Flintoff, last year's winner of the one-day player of the year, averaged 30 with the bat in tests and 38 in one-day internationals. He also took 44 wickets in tests and 25 in one-dayers.

India's Rahul Dravid had also won the double honour last year by claiming the Player of the year and the Test player of the year awards.

Kallis was a runaway winner for the Test individual award, polling almost three times as many votes as the runner-up, Australia fast bowler Glenn McGrath.

Kallis played 15 Tests in the 12-month voting period which ended on July 31 this year.

He scored 1,497 runs in that time, easily the most by any batsman in the world, at an average of 71.28 including six centuries.

Kallis took 20 wickets and also held 16 catches.

"The fact this award was voted for by Jacques's peers and colleagues shows the high regard in which he is held by them and he is a worthy winner," ICC president Malcolm Speed said.

Earlier in the night, Kallis was named in the one-day team of the year. He was also one of five nominations for the top award as international cricketer of the year.

Ricky Ponting and Marvan Atapattu were selected as captains of the Test team of the year and ODI team of the year.

ICC Test Team of the Year: Virender Sehwag, Graeme Smith, Ricky Ponting (capt), Jacques Kallis, Brian Lara, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Andrew Flintoff, Adam Gilchrist (wk), Shane Warne, Chaminda Vaas, Glenn McGrath. 12th man: Anil Kumble.
