Numbers To Note, 3rd Test, Day 4
November 01, 2008

577 - Australia's [Images] total in their first innings of the third Test in Delhi [Images] is their highest ever on Indian soil surpassing the 574 for 7 declared at Madras (now Chennai) in 1986-87

508 - Wicketless deliveries (legitimate) bowled by Anil Kumble [Images] since dismissing Ajantha Mendis [Images] in the first innings of Colombo (PSS) Test in August. Kumble finally managed to deceive Brad Haddin to get his first wicket in last four innings.

28 - Number of byes conceded by India wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. This is the joint third worst performance by any Indian wicketkeeper in an innings. Only Dinesh Karthik [Images] (35 vs Pakistan at Bangalore in 2007-08) and Budhi Kunderan (29 vs England [Images] at Kanpur in 1963-64) have conceded more, while Nayan Mongia also allowed 28 byes against Sri Lanka [Images] during their world record total at Colombo RPS in 1997-98.

26 - Number of times both sides posted a total of 500 or more in their first innings. It was the fourth such instance on Indian soil. On all three previous occasions match ended in a draw.

5 - Number of wickets taken by Virender Sehwag [Images]. This was not only his best performance in Test cricket, but also in all first-class matches. His previous best was 4 for 32 for North Zone v South Zone at Mumbai in 1998-99.

1 - First time five Australian batsmen scored at least a half-century in the same innings against India.
