The Indian Cricket board has recommended former Test skipper Chandu Borde's [Images] name for the prestigious Dhyan Chand award.

"The BCCI has recommended the names of Chandu Borde, for Dhyan Chand award and Vithal Patil (old-time coach from Mumbai) for the Dronacharya award along with Mahendra Singh Dhoni's [Images] name for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award," BCCI sources said on Friday.

Borde, if conferred with the award instituted in 2002 in the name of the hockey wizard, will be the first cricketer to receive the same for lifetime achievement in sports. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1.50 lakh, a plaque and scroll of honour.

A total of 21 sports persons, including three athletes, two hoopsters, two cueists, seven hockey players, three wrestlers, a kabaddi player, a rower and a spiker -- have won the Dhyan Chand award in the past.

The Pune-based cricketer, who will be celebrating his 74th birthday on July 21, had accumulated over 3,000 Test runs in 59 Tests.

The leg-spinner also has 52 Test wickets in his kitty, besides making over 12,000 runs in 251 first class matches.

After retirement, Borde became a chief selector, pitch curator at the Nehru Stadium in Pune and manager of Indian team as well.
