Statistical Highlights, Bangladesh v India, 1st ODI

- Virender Sehwag (30) completed his 5,000 runs in ODIs when his score reached 3. He became the 48th batsman in the world and sixth Indian batsman to reach this milestone after Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja.

- Dinesh Mongia (3-49) claimed three wickets for only second time in his ODI career. The only other such instance for Mongia was against Zimbabwe at home ground Mohali on March 10, 2002 when he returned the figures of 3-31.

- Bangladesh's total of 250-7 is their second highest total against India after 257-9 in 50 overs at Dhaka on December 27, 2004

- Interestingly Sehwag's batting average of 31.61 is the lowest among all the Indians at the time of reaching this milestone (calculated at the end of the innings). Azharuddin with 36.76 was previously at the bottom, while Sourav Ganguly keeps the top slot with an average of 43.48.

- For some unknown reasons Rahul Dravid is finding Bangladesh bowlers too hot to handle. In six innings he has played against Bangladesh, Dravid has aggregated only 155 runs at an average of 25.83 with a highest of 60. In fact Dravid's batting average of 25.83 is his lowest against any country against which he has played at least five innings. Australia come next with 27.15

- Dhoni's unbeaten 91 (off 106 balls) is the highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper against Bangladesh. The previous highest was a paltry 27 (unbeaten) by Parthiv Patel at Dhaka on April 16, 2003.

- Karthik (58*) scored second fifty of his ODI career after 63 (off 87 balls) against West Indies at Cuttack on January 24, 2007. This was also the highest score by an Indian number seven batsman against Bangladesh, expunging Dinesh Mongia's unbeaten 16 at Dhaka on April 16, 2003.

- The 107-run unbroken partnership between Dhoni and Karthik is India's best for the sixth wicket against Bangladesh, surpassing the 26-run stand between Abhijit Kale and Dinesh Mongia at Dhaka on April 16, 2003.

- The above partnership is also the second highest for any side for the sixth wicket against Bangladesh after the 114-run partnership between Zimbabwe's Stuart Matsikenyeri and Elton Chigumbura at Harare on July 29, 2006.

- Dhoni completed his 2,000 ODI runs in his 70th match and 62nd innings to become 132nd batsman overall and 18th from India. Although he is the third fastest among Indians in the race to 2,000 runs (after Sourav Ganguly and Navjot Sidhu who took 52 innings apiece to do so), Dhoni's batting average of 46.17 is the highest for any Indian at the time of reaching this milestone. Ganguly was the previous record-holder with a batting average of 42.55.

- Among all wicket-keepers who have reached 2,000 run-mark, Dhoni is the third fastest in terms of innings taken to accomplish this feat. Only fellow teammate and skipper Rahul Dravid (55) and England's Alec Stewart (60) reached this target in lesser number of innings than Dhoni.

- The last time India successfully chased a target of 200 or more outside India was almost one year back - against West Indies at Kingston on May 18, 2006.

- The Man of the Match award was fourth for Dhoni - his first against Bangladesh.

- Mohammad Ashraful became the fourth Bangladesh cricketer to play 100 ODIs, after Khaled Mashud (126), Mohammad Rafique (122) and Habibul Bashar (110). Incidentally Ashraful is still two short of three-figure mark for Bangladesh as his tally includes two games for Asian XI against African XI in Afro-Asia tournament held in August 2005.

- Javed Omar's innings of 80 (off 117 balls) is the second highest individual innings by a Bangladesh batsman against India. The best still remains Rajin Saleh's 82 (off 114 balls) at Dhaka on December 27, 2004.

- The first wicket partnership of 78 runs between Javed Omar and Tamim Iqbal is Bangladesh's best opening stand against India. The pair obliterated the previous record stand of 31 between Nafis Iqbal and Rajin Saleh at Dhaka on December 27, 2004.
