Match report | Scorecard | Images

The Sardar Patel stadium in Ahmedabad hosted its 15th ODI. This is now the second highest tally for any ground in India after Kolkata's Eden Gardens (20). Five other grounds -- Ferozshah Kotla (Delhi), Lal Bahadur Shastri stadium (Hyderabad), Sawai Mansingh stadium (Jaipur), M.Chinnaswamy stadium (Bangalore) and Wankhede stadium (Mumbai) -- have hosted 14 matches each.

- The wicket of Sanath Jayasuriya [Images] was the 50th for Shaun Pollock [Images] against Sri Lanka [Images]. He became first bowler to reach this landmark in South Africa-Sri Lanka matches. Overall also, he is only the third bowler after Pakistan pacers Wasim Akram (92) and Waqar Younis (84) to take 50 wickets against Sri Lanka.

- The dismissal of Jayasuriya also gave Pollock his 50th wicket as LBW -- becoming only the fifth bowler in ODI history to do so after Wasim Akram (92), Waqar Younis (72), Chaminda Vaas [Images] (59) and Anil Kumble [Images] (50).

- Jayasuriya on the other hand got dismissed LBW for the 39th time -- the highest tally for any batsman in ODIs. He is followed by Inzamam-ul Haq (37) and Roshan Mahanama (34).

- Chaminda Vaas's figures of 10-3-16-2 (RpO 1.60) are the most economical by any Sri Lankan bowler against South Africa in a ten-over spell. Chandika Hathurusingha had conceded 18 runs in his 10 overs (RpO 1.80) at Colombo RPS on 04-09-1993 -- the previous best performance for Sri Lanka against South Africa.

- Vaas's performance ranks among the best by any pacer against South Africa. The following table has the details:

- The bowlers other than Jayasuriya to dismiss Kallis in this fashion are: Shane Warne [Images] (twice), Mark Waugh [Images], Harbhajan Singh [Images] and Steve Tikolo [Images] (once each).

- Shaun Pollock won his 16th man of the match award, which puts him at level with Jonty Rhodes [Images], Gary Kirsten and Herschelle Gibbs [Images]. Now only Jacques Kallis (24), Lance Klusener (19) and Hansie Cronje [Images] (18) have won more awards than Pollock for South Africa.
