India 'A' selection on Saturday

May 24, 2003 00:57 IST

Orissa opener Shiv Sunder Das has emerged as a strong contender to captain India 'A'.

The national selectors are meeting in Kolkata on Saturday to select the team for the forthcoming 75-day tour of England beginning next month.

The meeting will be preceded by an interactive session between Board of Control for Cricket in India president Jagmohan Dalmiya and the national selectors, led by Brijesh Patel.

Dalmiya has said that the meeting with the selection panel is 'routine'. But sources said deliberations might involve
steps for betterment of standards and future planning for the national team, with an eye on the engagements against
Australia and New Zealand later this year.

Dalmiya has addressed the selectors several times after taking over as BCCI president in 2001, but this would be the
first time he is meeting them since the World Cup in February-March.

The meeting, earlier slated to be held in Bangalore on May 19, was rescheduled to enable Dalmiya to address the
selectors.
