Stubborn knocks by Sridharan Sriram and Rohan Gavaskar enabled the India 'A' team end Day 1 of their three-day match against Glamorgan on 149 for 6 at Swansea on Thursday.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, the Indians lost the wickets of S S Parab (4) and S S Das (14) early, but Sriram (62) and Gavaskar (61) put their heads down and put together a partnership of 116 runs to steady the innings. But both were out in quick succession to England Test spinner Robert Croft, who finished the day with three wickets for 45 runs.

David Harrison claimed the first two wickets, that of Parab and Das, to end the day with figures of 2-27.

Gavaskar was Croft's first victim, caught O T Parkin. He scored eight fours and a six in his 126-ball knock. His exit started a slide as three wickets fell for just seven runs.

Sriram also fell to Croft with the first ball of the 53rd over. It turned out to be the last ball of the day as rains played spoilsport.

Sriram hit six fours in his 127 ball knock.

When play ended, Prathiv Patel was unbeaten on 1.
