India 'A' bowled out for 181

August 01, 2003 23:36 IST

India 'A' were forced to follow-on after being bowled out for 181 in their first innings on the third day of the four-day cricket match against Warwickshire at Edgbaston on Friday.

Only captain Shiv Sunder Das (51), southpaw Sridharan Sriram (41) and wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel (46 not out)  managed respectable scores as the Indian batting collapsed dramatically in 52.5 overs.

At close of play, India were 70 for no loss in their second innings with Das unbeaten on 22 and Jaffer on 32.

The tourists still trail by 286 runs and face an uphill task of batting out more than a whole day to save the match, their last fixture of the 40-day tour.

Ian Bell was the key bowler for Warwickshre, claiming four for 12, his victims included Das and Hemang Badani. G G Wagg, M A Sheikh and M M Betts picked two wickets each.

Das and Sriram provided a healthy start for the visitors, who were placed at 117 for one after the early dismissal Jaffer (14).

But the fall of Sriram, to Wagg, triggered a middle order collapse as India lost six wickets for the addition of eleven  runs.

As wickets continued to fall, Patel decided to make the most of his time at the crease. His unbeaten 46 came off 43  balls and contained seven fours and three sixes.

But the flood had broken the banks by then and Betts and Sheikh combined to clean up the tail.
