India on Thursday expressed concern over the proposed US Call Centre Bill, but said that it is premature to assess the impact of the decision on the domestic IT industry.
A bipartisan Bill has been tabled in the US House of Representatives to make companies, which move call centres overseas, ineligible for grants or guaranteed loans from the federal government, a move aimed at stemming the tide of jobs heading to nations like India.
"Yes, it is something to be concerned about, yes, it is something to be worried about," commerce secretary Rahul Khullar told reporters while releasing a report at the Assocham function in New Delhi.
He, however, said that at this stage it would be premature to say anything on the possible impact of the proposed bill on the Indian industry.
