To increase its market share in the country to beyond 50 per cent and remain there, Maruti-Suzuki plans on entering new segments, reports a leading financial daily.

About 12 all-new products are planned for market introductions this decade, and they will see Maruti venture into segments like compact SUV, mini SUV, premium hatchback and premium MPV to name a few.

Next year, Maruti will launch the SX4 S-Cross at a price of around Rs 10 lakh, and it will rival the Mahindra Scorpio, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano.

Then in 2016, the compact sub-4 meter SUV based on the concept XA-Alpha would be introduced to compete against the Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon.

Maruti will not stop its SUV portfolio there as the newspaper reports that the new Vitara which was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show last week, will come in 2018.

In the MPV segment, Maruti will vie for the market above the Ertiga, which is currently dominated by the Toyota Innova, with a luxurious MPV.

Even though Maruti has a premium hatchback in the Swift, the report says that the company is working on a more premium model codenamed ‘YRA’, positioned above it. And on the other end of the hatchback segment, sources say that a new entry-level small car is being worked upon.

Another way in which the company plans to increase sales is by tapping into the commercial segment with its all-new LCV (codenamed Y9T) which launches next year and a compact goods van based on it.
