In 2008, the companies had planned a tripartite joint venture entity that would build and sell a $3,000 (about Rs 1.4 lakh) competitor to Tata Motors' Nano, the world's cheapest car. Bajaj was to have a 50 per cent stake, with Renault and Nissan having 25 per cent each.
Bajaj talks about his plans for the RE-60, which was showcased in January last year in the Auto Expo, to Business Standard.
"Now, in my view, Bajaj is a bit like a zoo," Bajaj Auto managing director Rajiv Bajaj said on Wednesday, likening the different models from the firm's stable as different animals in a zoo.
From the Sensex pack, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, Titan, ITC, UltraTech Cement, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Hindustan Unilever and Kotak Mahindra Bank were among the major gainers. Tata Steel, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, NTPC and ICICI Bank were the major laggards.
In just three months from now, 'Hamara Bajaj' could become 'Hamara Pulsar' or 'Hamara Discover'.
