The Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday afternoon arrested tainted former Union telecom minister A Raja, his brother A K Perumal, along with his aide R K Chandolia and former telecom secretary Siddharth Behuria in connection with the 2G Spectrum scam.
After a long wait, Tata Teleservices on Thursday launched the premium Blackberry mobile services that offers customers e-mail, SMS messaging and Internet-based applications.
The move would allow mobile operators with relatively less number of subscribers to share spectrum with other players.
Telecom Secretary Siddartha Behura is learnt to have made a request to the Prime Minister's Office to convene a meeting that will include PMO, DoT, telecom regulator TRAI and finance secretary to resolve the controversy over spectrum allocation and pricing. He said the department is in dialogue with the ministry of finance regarding certain issues relating to guidelines for auction of 3G spectrum and pricing of 2G spectrum.
Loop Telecom on Wednesday stated that it has fully complied with the licensing norms and has submitted the certified shareholding structure in the company to the DoT, saying that the Essar Group has equity of less than 9.99 per cent in the firm (Loop).
Idea Cellular had recently bought over B K Modi-owned Spice Communications which had operations in Punjab and Karnataka. Asked whether DoT would consider amending some of the norms like three-year lock-in-period for merger at later stage, Behura said 'that stage has not come as yet'.
