Interrogations conducted by the Gujarat police on two accused in the Gujarat blasts case -- Abbas Sameja and Shaikh Ahmed -- have revealed that Nasir, the operative who was first picked up in north Karnataka was aware of the blasts.
The investigation into the twin blasts in Hyderabad seems to be taking a new turn in the wake of the home minister of Andhra Pradesh claiming that Mufti Abu Basher was involved in the attack. The Hyderabad police are now looking at the case with a two-pronged approach. They are looking at the role played by both Abu Basher and also Riazuddin Nasir in the blasts.
Investigating agencies have also found several books and notes belonging to Nasir in which he has scribbled 'jihad is in my blood' and 'jihad mix my blood'.
Riazuddin Nasir, the man arrested in Karnataka earlier this year is back in the limelight once again with the Gujarat police obtaining a body warrant against him in order to interrogate him. They hope to find the answers from Nasir, who is the only person so far in the SIMI network to have told the police about the entire operation.
The court at Hoannalli in north Karnataka observed that the Corps of Detectives had failed to file a chargesheet in 90 days, which is mandatory as per Section 162 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Nasir was first arrested on charges of theft. However, during the course of the investigation it was revealed that Nasir along with others had planned to blow up several places in Karnataka, Goa and Andhra Pradesh.
However, security agencies have something to smile about now, with the alleged mastermind in the Jaipur blasts case revealing key details about the Students Islamic Movement of India, which infact corroborates with the statements given by Riazuddin Nasir, the Lashkar-e-Tayiba operative arrested in Karnataka earlier this year.
After spending five years in jail, Maulana Mohammad Naseeruddin was granted bail by the Supreme Court. He spoke to Vicky Nanjappa about his detention and the charges against him.
However, according to investigation officers, the plan had to be aborted following the crackdown on SIMI activists in Karnataka. The task of stealing cars and motorcycles was entrusted with Riazuddin Nasir, son of Moulana Nasiruddin who is an accused in the Haren Pandya murder case.
Intelligence Bureau officials had been keeping a tab on these men ever since Riazuddin Nasir and Yahya Khan who were arrested in Karnataka gave details about these men during both interrogation as well as the narco analysis tests conducted on them. For the Indore police and the several other investigating agencies across the country the prize catch was Safdar Nagori, the general secretary of the banned SIMI outfit.
Although Hyderabad police are not confirming the arrest, the youth's family members told rediff.com that he was picked up late Tuesday night by the police from his workshop.
Intelligence Bureau sources say a massive manhunt has been launched to track down these missing men. The agency is gathering telephone intercepts and other information, which includes statements made by those arrested in Madhya Pradesh.
Sallahudin, an alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba militant and a resident of Madhubani in Bihar, was arrested along with Imran and Farooq while they were trying to leave Lucknow. The UP police also picked up three other militants - Suhail, Arshad and Fayheem - in Rampur while they were heading towards Mumbai.
Terrorists planned to drive five vehicles to Goa and park them at the beaches where the foreign tourist population was the highest. They then planned to plant RDX in each of these vehicles and trigger of each of these bombs in quick succession. The entire idea was to create a serial blast only in Goa and the main target was the foreigners.
'One minute and 45 seconds of that clip are on Modi praising gauraksha.' 'In the last 30 seconds he speaks about violence, but says only that killing is unacceptable.' 'We don't need the prime minister to tell us that.' 'We need him to tell us why the killing is happening and what he will do to stop it,' says Aakar Patel.
