The appointment of former judge of Allahabad High Court Justice Virendra Singh as Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta was on Saturday put on hold after the Supreme Court held a special sitting on a holiday and posed embarrassing questions to the Samajwadi Party government, which was accused of concealing facts and "playing fraud".
"I am happy that justice has prevailed. I hope the government will be alive to having an institution like Lokayukta", he told reporters, recalling the trapping of Sampangi by Loakyukta sleuths when he was the Lokayukta.
The Karnataka high court on Friday reserved its order on the anticipatory bail application of former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, who will appear before Lokayuta on Saturday to face allegations of denotification of government land for "personal gains".
