The Indian Railways will set up mobile e-ticketing centres at hospitals, universities, courts, Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), district headquarters and village panchayats, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said while presenting the Budget on Wednesday.
Ending a year-long tussle with the government, the Indian Institutes of Management on Wednesday agreed to provide 'all types of support' for setting up six new B-schools in the country which are expected to start functioning from the coming academic session.
'We will maintain the quality that we have today. But in the long run, it depends whether the government will provide the funds we need for maintaining our standards,' says IIM-K director Dr A H Kalro.
The meeting decided to help candidates get loans from financial institutions.
The programme, which aims to fulfil the requirements of a new generation of entrepreneurs and family businesses, is jointly offered by IIM-B and U21 Global. They now aim to take the programme abroad, offering it to non-resident Indians in south east Asia and West Asia.
After IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore, the IIM Lucknow has decided to increase the fee of its post graduate programme in management by Rs 1,50,000 per annum from the coming academic session. "We will increase the fee from Rs 2,50,000 per annum at present to Rs 400,000 per year from 2009-10 academic session. The fee will be Rs 400,000 each year during the two-year programme," IIM Lucknow director Prof Devi Singh told PTI.
"In an everyday changing environment and increased globalisation, it becomes necessary for us to adopt a global framework for governance to withstand foreign pressure and achieve world standards," Dholakia said.
The minister said that IIMs have to amend MoAs to set up centres abroad.
Describing the DAD as the "guardian of defence finance", he emphasised the need to bolster the internal vigilance mechanism so that any suspicious activity can be detected and reviewed immediately.
