IT giant Dell on Friday reported a 48 per cent decline in net income and said it could cut jobs in the Asia-Pacific region as its plans to save $4 billion to tide over the economic slowdown.
The company's revenues also slipped four per cent to $14.42 billion in Q1 FY'13 from $15.01 billion in 2012.
"Dell moved into second place in the worldwide PC market for the first time since the fourth quarter of 2008. Dell did well in the Asia and Pacific region, where it has invested heavily lately. Professional PC refreshments definitely boosted Dell's growth," according a survey done Gartner.
It's free cash flow over the past 12 months was more than $3 billion.

The India personal computer (PC) market shipment, inclusive of desktops, notebooks, and workstations, dropped by an overall 30.1 per cent in the first quarter of CY2023 over the previous year, to only 2.99 million units, according to the latest data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker released on Tuesday. In Q1CY23, while the demand for desktops was positive, the notebook category witnessed another weak quarter as it declined by 40.8 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y). The consumer segment declined by 36.1 per cent y-o-y primarily due to slowing demand and weak market sentiment.

The government on Thursday imposed import restrictions on laptops, tablets, all-in-one personal computers, ultra small form factor computers, and servers with immediate effect. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in a notification said exemption from import licensing is provided up to 20 items per consignment for R&D, testing, benchmarking and evaluation, repair and return and product development purposes.
