They came to watch their men turn up the heat on Uruguay, but all that they got was boring football and a ticket back home.

The wives of Italian footballers Gianluigi Buffon, Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne were spotted in the crowd while they tried to keep their hopes alive in Brazil.

But the wives were left stunned as the Italian team was knocked out of the tournament after Uruguay captain Diego Godin headed in the late winner off a corner.

Italy’s defensive tactics proved fatal for them eventually.

Italy did well to suffocate Luis Suarez early in the match and it looked like they would manage to eke out that much-needed draw.

But the WAGS were left disappointed as their partners failed to keep themselves in the competition.
