People scampered out of their homes on Thursday as a mild tremor hit the Sikkim capital only four days after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake had caused large-scale deaths and devastations in the state, northeast region and some other parts of the country.

Panicky residents came out of their homes as the tremor was felt at around 10.10 pm. Director General of police Jasbir Singh said most of the people were on the roads.

As most of the houses in the city have developed cracks after Sunday's powerful temblor, people are reluctant to enter their houses after the mild tremor and want to spend the night on the roads or in open areas, Singh said.

At least 74 people have died in the state in Sunday's quake.
