The employers of Murali and Varadaiah, the two Indians abducted by the Taliban in Afghanistan last weekend, are confident that the workers will come back safely.
A spokesperson for B Seenaiah & Company (Projects) told rediff.com from Hyderabad: "We are in touch with our office people in Afghanistan."
The two are from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, and in their 20s.
"Our local people say that they are safe and no harm has been done to them so far. We are now only hopeful that they will be released soon," the spokesperson said.
"These workers befriended local Afghans and made a mistake by venturing out with them without security. We are only hoping that some positive development will take place by Wednesday afternoon," he added.
Asked if the abductors were demanding ransom, he said, "We have no idea about the ransom. So far no demand has come to us."
The group had set up a joint venture with another Indian company, C&C Constructions, and bagged two contracts in Afghanistan. The contracts were for constructing the Kandahar-Kabul road and the Kandahar-Spin Boldak road.
At present the firm has nearly 200 Indians in Afghanistan.
