The Rajasthan government on Monday did not allow Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and SP general secretary Amar Singh to visit the Gujjar agitation-hit areas in Bayana and Sikandara.

Yadav and Singh arrived in Bharatpur in the morning to visit the dharna sites.

However, they were not permitted to proceed further due to security reasons, an official spokesman said.

He said that the SP leaders were told that the situation in the stir-affected areas was not conducive for their visit and it would be difficult for the administration to provide them with adequate security.

He clarified that Yadav and Singh were neither arrested nor detained but were simply advised to return.
