Sonia to visit quake-hit areas in J&K

United Progressive Alliance chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi [Images] would undertake a two-day visit to quake-hit areas of Jammu and Kashmir [Images], official sources said on Sunday.

Sonia will visit Poonch district in Jammu division and Uri in Baramullah district of Kashmir valley on December 9, the sources said.

On December 10, Gandhi will visit Tangdhar areas in Kupwara district and then return to New Delhi.

The Congress president, likely to be accompanied by some party leaders, including Ambika Soni, will take stock of relief and rehabilitation activities in the quake-hit areas, the sources said.

Sonia, who was earlier scheduled to visit these areas on December 3, could not due to her important engagements in connection with the ongoing winter session of Parliament, they added.
