Policemen snatched a packet of candy from me. It was for Rs 70. I hardly earn Rs 50 a day. The police always loot us because we don't have permission to sell here. Sometimes even the municipal people harass us.

The police asked me not to sell around the parade route. But I have been selling sweets here for so many years. Where will I go on Republic Day? This is an occasion for good business.

This year, it was a bad day for me. We give Rs 20 to the police every Sunday. But we cannot give money to everybody. We earn a pittance. Life has become very difficult. Whom do we complain to?

As told to Ehtasham Khan
