Mohapatra was not only a great guru, but a great dancer too. As renowned Bharat Natyam exponent Dr Padma Subramaniam noted, when he took to the stage, he could put dancers several years younger to shame.

Guruji could also convey feminine grace and manners far more convincingly than most female dancers.
