Guruji is credited with bringing back to life a dance form that was, for all practical purposes, frozen in temple sculptures.

Not only did he give Odissi new life, he added beauty and refinement to it without losing its roots. Now, of course, much of the innovation that he brought into the dance has become a staple of the Odissi repertoire.
