'It is scary to think what the 35 terrorists would do if they were released'

E-Mail this feature to a friend

Nightmare of Flight 814, Message Board. Views verbatim, edited lightly.

Name: N Sanjay
Email: sanjaynaik@rediffmail.com
Message: It Is Very Delicate Situation where if they release the terrorist, many lives which have lost will go waste.but if the do not take any action also 160 lives will be lost. i think the Govt Should Take The Help Of USA,UK and other developed nations. 1.i think the Govt did not take it seriously when they came to know of the Hijacking. 2.They should not have allowed the flight to leave amristar. 3.they should take help of commandos and enter the flight from some where and attack the Hijackers,as they are not having sophiscated weapons.

Message: Yes, since we have no other way of rescuing them in a country where the mental commitment to their cause is strong.

Email: neha_krishan@usa.net
Message: What I feel is that the situation is extremely tricky and our first aim should be that our national honour and interests are not compromised ofcourse human life too is important - I think that this is high time that we indians break away from our image of a "SOFT STATE" and fight the challenge that we face - especially considering the fact that we are surrounded by hostile nations on all side and we have to protect our own interest and not look towards anybody else

Name: Devang B. Shah
Email: db_shah@hotmail.com
Message: No not at all. Either we should take militery action to release hostages or we should hijack pak/afghan planes and should exchange with our one.

Name: Namrata Agarwal
Email: namu@123india.com
Message: According to me he should not be let out as he could then kill maybe thousands of innocents. Well that does not mean that I don't understand the plight of the passangers and their relatives because I am continously praying for them and God would certtainly get them back

Name: Jenice
Email: jenice@hotmail.com
Message: Yes, they should release the terrorist. They can always catch him later. Just kidding - pls. do not pulish this line. I'm sure the majority of the people who participate in this survey will agree with me because then if at all the hostages on the flight are injured in anyway at least no one will be able to point at the Indian government and say they did not take any action or say they did not try. Message: First the Rubaiya episode and now the IA Hijacking . I know its very difficult to undergo such tremendous pressure from all sections for the prime minister . It must be also very difficult to have patience now that Mr. Ripen Katyal has been stabbed barbarically to death, But still in my personal opinion the prime minister instead of caving in under pressure to release that bag full of filth back into the society , It should act fast alongwith the Taleban, storm the plane and kill those hijackers. Thats the only solution .

Name: Sandeep Banerjee
Email: timepass@mailroom.com
Message: While yielding to the demands would embolden the hijackers, not doing so may mean the end of over 150 innocent lives. Considering that there's been a precedent as in the case of Rubaiya Sayeed, it certainly remains an option to release the militants, though it should be done as a last resort, when everything else fails. It remains to be seen if the plebians and kings of this country are counted equal when it comes to a question of life and death.

Message: No way the Government should release him. I agree i dont have any1 there in the plane if i have too i would not request the government to release him. We should stand together at this crisis moment and i wish and pray that all our beloved Indians should reach home safely. With prayers, Srinivasan.

I HOPE THAT THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN TAKEN AS HOSTAGES HAVE THE COURAGE AND THE PATIENCE AND I AM PRAYING FOR ALL OF THEM FOR THEIR SAFE RETURN. I KNOW THAT THE WHOLE COUNTRY FEELS THE SAME WAY THAT I FEEL FOR THEM.

Message: The life of 150 passengers can no way be compared to one rascal of a terrorist. Why didn't the Indian government kill such dangerous people instead of having them as captives. If it had killed that Masood, on the day of his capture, this incident might not have taken place. It's high time India stopped looking at terrorists in the humanitarian view and take strict actions against them. As for now, if the release of one terrorist is going to save the life of 150 people, India, can very well go for it.

Message: The exchange should never be done. We will only lay grounds for more such happennings. Today it is a plane hijacked and tomorrow it could be a school bus. We as the citizens of India should support the government at this juncture of crisis and not burden them even more. The government should find a way to release the passengers although.

Message: According to my opinion, we dont release MMA (Pakistani Machhar) and his some mouse. Because this situation is not thinking about only passengers, it is the movment of our country's love who had lost thier whole life every movement of our freedom. They lost thier homes, Father, brother and wealth. So dont remember past tense. Pakistan is going very happly about hijackers. But that is bad think for him. India is not going your (Pakistan) same way. We want to True way and we defeat Pakistan true way. So, I again request you to it is not serious matter about hijackers. It is turning point and thinking about our country and his hero. Yours India Son Nitin

Name: Sunay Mathure
Email: sunaymathure@yahoo.com
Message: The disgraceful demonstrations by relatives of the passengers of hijacked flight IC 814 and the lop-sided media coverage proves that India does not deserve its sovereignity and security. Unfortunately, Indians value their lives more than that of other innocents killed in terrorist violence. With crocodile tears being shed on Kargil martyrs, citizens are unwilling to make any sacrifice on heir own. While the relatives' plight is understandable, in no other country would the government be held hostage to such hysterical frenzy. Amidst all the madness, a few like Capt Sharan's wife are an inspiring persona. The nation salutes the great lady and prays for all hostages.

Name: ketan Mehta
Email: ketanrmehta@yahoo.com
Message: No, Government should not release the Maulana Masood in Exchange of passenger. I understand the mental position of relatives & hostages but it will be more easy for terrorist to same kind of thing agine in near future if we release the masood. Also government should make a law to see that in future if such terrorist are been arrested they should be killed in kind of encounter / shoot at site.

Message: Hello. It is quite a dilemma for the Indian Govt. Agreed. To free 160 hostages by releasing a wanted might cost more than 160 lives in the long run.. However putting oneself in the shoes of a hostage or his poor kin, Indian Govt has to immediately work towards the release of the innocent, even if it means releasing the terrorist..After all, non-stop tension for 5 days is absolutely too much!

Message: We should not release the militants. The govt has been sluggish. It's very very slow in it's reaction. It is very unfortunate that neither the ministers nor the people (IAS, IFS and IPS) know how to use the electronic and IT media effectively and match the demands of the situation. We r paying price for letting the flight go out of Amritsar. India has to come out of the shadows of the Colonial Raj. we still wait for somebody to come and tell us everything. Build pressure diplomatically from all angles on the hijackers, Taliban and all the necessary Islamic nations and secure the release. Go in for a commando action. Convince Taliban for it.

Message: In such short time span it is not possible for the government to take haste decisions. Three months back 24000 people have laid their lives in Kargil chasing the terrorists in Kashmir. How can the Indian government let the terrorists go set free. Any no cost should the government make any compromise with the hijackers.

Message: Dear all, Once again, the India subcontinents CANCER i.e Pakisthan and its loyal Islamists are up to their desperate actions by holding the lives of 160 innocent people on board. Even if it sounds fictitious, a deal has to be struck up properly the release of all passengers in exchange to the so called Islam Cleric who is jailed in Jammu in the following way. That Cleric should be made to consume SLOW BUT SURE killing medicine and should be freed in exchange of our passengers. The medicine consumed should kill him in next 24 hrs.

Name: srimati

Name: Leena Kutumbale
Email: lkutumbale@yahoo.com
Message: The government should not give in to such demands of the militants since this would just make them even more confident about their dreadful acts. Its a real tough time for both the passengers aboard as well as their relatives, but as Indians, we should realize that such demands should never be fulfilled since it would only encourage militancy. If, suppose the Government releases Maulana Masood, what would it do if another such incident takes place in future, would it continue to give in to such demands ?

Name: Prateek Prakash
Email: ppmisra@usa.net
Message: It's easy to say that the govt. should not release the militants when one's own relatives aren't there on IC814. Moreover there is no gaurantee that even after the release of the militants the passengers will be released. In such situations, I think the govt. should leave the decision in the hands of the relatives of the passengers aboard the IC814 after telling them of all the pros & cons of any decision.

Message: GOVT.SHOULD RELEASE THE JAILED MILTANT OR MILITANTS (WHATEVER MAY BE THE NO.) TO GET THE PASSANGERS AND PLANE RELEASED. FOR FUTURE GOVT.MUST NOTE THAT ONCE THE MILITANT IS ARRESTED HE SHOULD BE SHOT DEAD,SO THAT IN FUTURE WE DO NOT FACE THE TROUBLE LIKE HIGHJACKING THAT HAS OCCURED NOW. WHY DOES OUR GOVT KEEP THESE MILITANTS IN JAILS PROVIDE THEM ALL AMENITIES AND SECURITIES WHEN IN RETURN THEIR COMPANIANS KILL INNOCENT POEPLE?

Name: Kuldeep Jain
Email: kuldeep_jain@mckinsey.com
Message: never - releasing passengers for militants will only encourage such acts in the future. As a policy, India should never exchange prisoners for people, no matter who is involved. If we do the barter today, we will only forment kidnappings and hijackings in the future.

Email: anief007@yahoo.com
Message: No..No...A militant like Maulana Masood should not be released at any cost. Indian government should find a solution which should endup with the release of hostages. since time is running out, India should either take the aasistance of Cammandos operations who can handle such situation.I am surprised what Indian defence system is doing??????? Always says we have that we have this....where is all this & that????? None of the hostages should be harmed. JaiHind

Message: I think the govt. should agree to releasing the 35 prisoners, and design the release in a way and manner that once the passengers are released and in safe hands, the 35 prisoners and the hijackers should be taken down by prearranged methods. Let it be a lesson to anyone who tries such an attempt in future.

Message: The taliban speaking against the hikacking is like a prostitute speaking against adultery. The real problem is Jinnah's moth eaten pakistan, not the hijackers. This narco terrorist state must be smashed completely at the earliest whatever be the price. It is time India takes a leaf out of Israel's anti-terrorist operations. May God provide peace and free the hapless passengers.

Name: ravi
Email: cutpakidicks@usa.net
Message: Why cant India deal with these filthy pigs with a strong hand once and for all. My suggestion is to take off the pants of the Pakis including all their Mullahs and set their kutua dicks on fire using a welding flame. Whatever portion remains of these kutuas, severe and feed it to the pigs in pakistan. This will solve all the Pakis problems, I guarantee it.

Name: Rahul Kulkarni
Email: rakulkarni@hotmail.com
Message: National interests should NOT be compromised at any cost. Terrorism has done India a lot of harm and if the Indian government bows down to the demands of the hijackers, then they would be setting a very bad precedent apart from boosting the morale of the militants. Indian commandos should now prepare to storm the plane and rescue the hostages. It is possible that all hostages may not be saved. But that is a small price compared to the number of lives that could be under potential threat as a result of the release of those hardcore militants whose release is being sought by the hijackers.

Name: Shahid Latif
Email: slatifmdusa@netscape.net
Message: maulana Masood who ever this man is should be released. If thats what really the hostages are demanding. I hope this is not a drama staged by the Indian government. Because it is a sick and stupid. I sympathize with the passengers who must be in a deporable situation. I pray to Allah to shorten their misery. Ameen.

Message: BLAME IT ON Mr. V. P. Singh's Government .... Yes , because of he releasing militants in exchange of his minister's daughter Rubina we have encouraged and invited the militants to hijack and threaten us. If we are certain about Pakistan's Role in hijacking ,I think we should start building up troop and tanks near the border and give clear indication to Pakistan and international community that if they kill one Indian, India will kill 10,000.

Name: vikas amin
Email: vikasa@ureach.com
Message: The government shouldn't release these people. If they released, they will be killing lots of innocent civilians. I would say, Government should kill these ppl upon arrest rather putting them in jail. So, in future there wouldn't be an issue like hijaking, kidnapping etc.. Also, government will save taxpayers money too by not feeding these creeps in jail. **Jai HInd**

Name: RVUSA
Email: rvusa@hotmail.com
Message: Why don't we add a sedative in the food sent in for the hijacker's. It should start taking effect 2-3 hours after consumption. Obviously they are eating and drinking the food provided to them. The next time somebody goes to deliver food they won't come to pickup and then commondos can go in and rescue people.

Name: AISHWARYA
Email: aishwaryakumar@hotmail.com
Message: The government should definitely not bow down to the demands of the terrorists. I understand the pain of the relatives of the hostages on board but we must remember that India endured Kargil not very long ago. The families of the soldiers that were killed acted strong. This is a similar situation. We can't afford to let the enemy country believe that it can get all it's demands fulfilled by sheer pressure. We need to hold strong. But what I don't understand is why aren't the commandos being put to action subtly but intelligently? Aren't they trained for handling such situations? Wake up Mr. Vajpayee.

Message: Short answer NO When does this end?? How long must our country be held with a knife to our throats everytime some lazy, worthless human garbage decides he wants something These people do not understand reason. they have been brought up in a culture that teaches them it is OK to kill to get what you want. The only way to stop this is to fight fire with fire. Establish a timeline for the militants to release the hostages our else we start executing their muslim terrorist brothers and sisters. one for one. (If we run out of militants, wait a few days there'll be more dont you know they breed like rabbits) But this is too much to ask of a government that has no balls to even keep the plane on the ground while in Punjab. On the same lines, might I suggest upgrading the security of the relatives of out dearly beloved politicians or else if some Pakistani/Muslim maniac gets a hold of them, we might have to release our friendly local militants without so much as a blink of an eye. If this Paki who is enjoying the hospitality of out Indian prison system (Meals/room/running water/heat) while millions of hardworking poor are dying from the lack of the same was killed the last time his relatives made an attempt with the kiddnapping of western tourists, then we would not be in this situation. As for the jailed militants on vaction at our jails, what better source for human organs or human test subjects in experiments that will improve the quality of medicines or even develope new drugs for other disseases Now that would truly mean repaying your debt to society PS: Would it be too much to ask the Indian govt. to bomb these terrorist bases in Pakistan and cut the problem at its root

I do have symphathy for the hostages but at the same time we should never forget the Kargil episode and brave armyman who laid down there life for national security and I believe this highjacking is the next episode of Kargil and these hostages are equally brave and courages as our army man are. I selute them for their bravery and hope for the best.

Message: To begin with it is a very sad situation that we as human beings have to go through this pain and agony ,when our kith and kin are in danger of their lives ,my heart goes out for these people right now , but i strongly feel that the Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee should take a RIGID and AGGRESSIVE stand against the hijackers and not let in to any demands at all , rather give the hijackers an ultimatum , a last chance to release all the passengers UNCONDITIONALLY, before India takes care of this crisis with force , i think this will also set an example for the rest of the world , and show that we should not give in to acts of such inhumanity. I would have the same suggestion if any of my kin were on board , though it would have been an wxcruciatingly painful decision . Thanks.

The so called Indian government , has more than 100 ministers for nothing. Instead of stopping the plane in our terriotory and strom the plane, they were sleeping . given a chace they might have asked for hafta (bribe) from the relatives to strom the plane. We all know how after bhopal gas tradegy the officials grabbed the relief money. Overall this should happen to some politician or his relative than they will realise pain. But if each one of us in the nation can pledge to ourselves that we shall be prepared to sacrifice for the sake of the nation even people/things that are close to our hearts then we have to right to say that the Indian Govt. should not give in. This is right moment for patriotic organizations to create the right attitudes among the people so that they are emotionally well prepared to handle them and make sacrifices. Message: Take help from the Israelis... I doubt if we can launch a sting operation from India which will avoid detection from Pakistan and/or Afghanistan. It is extremely difficult (if not impossible) to retain the element of surprise. However, if such an attack were to be launched from a US battleship or Israel we could really surprise the Taliban and the militants. The Israelis are adept at counter-terrorism and the US can help with its intellegence and advanced equipment to combat such threats. I have no doubt that the Taliban is operating hand-in-glove with the hijackers. ISI involvement cannot be denied either... I request the friends and families of the hostages to be calm and think logically instead of letting their emotions getting the better of them. Today, their loved ones are suffering, tomorrow it could be somebody elses... I'm ashamed to see them protesting outside govt. buildings and demanding the freedom for the jailed terrorist. Where were they when these very people were out on a killing spree in the valley? How many of them raised their voice that time? For those who want to make a noise and hold protests why don't they protest against TERRORISM??? The govt. of India should put national interest ahead of the lives of the 160 people on board the plane. At the same time we should ASSERT ourselves and take immediate measures against the terrorist camps in Afghanistan and PoK should any of the hostages be harmed. Rupin Katyals death should be avenged by hanging Masood immediately. We need to send out a message to the entire world that India will not hesitate to retaliate if its citizens are treaded upon. It may be wishful thinking but the manner of dealing with such emergencies should be the sole responsiblity of a military organisation. There should be no place for "babus" in the Crisis Management Task Force. Moreover, it should be given th

Message: No. We should not accede to any terrorist demands. India has tolerated a lot of pain and suffering from a Muslim minority in Kashmhir and Sikhs in Punjab. If they think that we shall become timid, they are thinking wrong. Such action by Pakistani terrorists will only increase national resolve. Indian government should continue to talk, but never release the militants alive that it is holding. Buckling to their pressure and demands, will only add fire to similar kidnappings and hijackings in the region and worldwide. Of course negotiations for their safe release should continue unabated. If our people die on board flight 814, we and the world will never forget this incident. These innocent people have done nothing wrong, but those imprisoned militants deserve to be.

It appears to me that these guys are led by some goons whose god is helpless and needs men to do its bloody deeds. It needs human sacrifice. This is a new religion;not a religion that we know of.

Message: YES - for a brief period of time. The negotiating group should fulfill their demand and our army should be on high alert with Taliban in confidence and arrest them anyhow and anywhere by following them. This would end the crisis very soon without losing any lives and also getting backk the militants and money. Basically they should lie LIE LIE can only save now

Message: There are couple things that came out openly a) indifference of the 'biggies' to the plight of the 'brown' folks - I am yet to see any so called 'civilized, 1st rated nation' coming out with any response. may be there consensual silence is a testimony or a tacit approval of this crime. Another important point, it is proven that UN is a bunch of enunch no balls! b) India's screwed-up TV and print media : their sole aim is to criticize the Govt - how falt footed they are etc etc but never generate or develop a sensible rational perception about the whole episode - people in general just do not have any perception what amount of effort is being put by the authorities in resolving this crisis - don't get me wrong but the fact is authorities are putting an honest, upright attempt c) I am yet to see the 'pakis' in India (Swamy, Shabuddin, Mulayam, Arjun, pronab etc) saying anything about it options are very limited. Those sub-human talibans won't allow India to storm the plane if India wants to do that then the 'so called' powers will cry much like they are doing in Chechnya! I have a great respect for Islam as a religion but Islamic Fundamentalism is the the cancer to the civilized world and that need to be wiped out.

Message: In my opinion, nothing is more important that the lives of the crew and passengers on Flight 814. The mental and physical trauma which all of them are going through now needs to be the first consideration. They will live with it for life. Considering their safety and their life, I feel the government should take very quick decisions and not let another day pass by. It is indeed a shame that there is no decision taken or no action being taken for this as six days have passed. My sympathies are with the relatives and near and dear ones of the passengers and the crew and especially with Rachana. Is there no better solution than just releasing Maulana Masood? Is that how strong our Defense is? Is that how strong our commandos and Army is?

Message: yes , maulana massod should be released in exchange for the lives of the innocent crew and passengers.even if they were to be sacrificed , it would be inconsequential ultimately.there would some diplomatic homages paid to thee lost lives and in perhaps less than week , it would be business as usual for one and all, be it terrorists, corrupt and self serving politicians, slack intelligence or the rest of the worldr, except for those who lost their near and dear ones.so we have to think twice before we make a scarificial lambs out of these innocent people aboard ic814.with much regrets ..seema

Message: The mental agony of the relatives of the is understandable. I sympathise with them. But releasing those terrorists may prove even more dangerous. It is scary to think about what the 35 terrorists would do if they were released. They would hijack more flights and cause our country a lot of damage. Also we need to think about the number of soldiers who sacrifised their life to capture these terrorists. By releasing them all those sacrifices would go down the drain. I would encourage the Indian government not to sucumb to their pressures.

Message: Instead of giving $200 millions to these terrorists and releasing the 35 more terrorists into open public, blow up the dam plane and disburse 1 million dollars to each family member of the innocent passengers and buy a new plane with the remaining money. Then burn all the 35 people listed by them in public with live telecast. The balance money can be used to create memorial for the 155 innocent passengers. By doing this, the hijacking drama will not occur again and we are saving thousand of public lives by not releasing 35 terrorists. Jai Hind

Message: There is no way we can do anything now as the Talibans are not our friends and they themselves have trained these militants to do these thnngs. Our best option will be to try to save as many hostages as we can by commando operations. As they have already said they wan't allow Indian commandos. So let them do it. Then we should execute all the militants they have asked for.

Message: Yes, the govt. needs to meet all the demands and ensure safe passage for hostages. Simultaneously, govt. needs to engage a commando pursuit to destroy the fleeing hijackers and the released prisoners. The Indian govt. has already messed up the strategic advantage of having the IA plane on its soil. They should have bloked the runaway and negotiated release of women and children prior to letting them off gain. Instead of firing Indian civil servants to pacify the angry public, the govt. needs to fire politicians. Shame on the Indian govt. for such foolhardiness.

Message: Well ! Its not easy to deside wheather we can relase killer's from jail or not. I feel this is the best way. Its againist 150 Vs/ 35 animals in the jail. Before thinking about 150 passengers think about 1000's people who dies in the hands of ugly, animal miletents. Indian Govt better to take public poll in this situation. Its not good idea to release militents. They are going to kill 100's of innocent people. If india bend now they do same for each and every one. I belive now inidan milatray must come in to the seen and take control from govt. Best idea is to kill all 35 people who are in the jail Only two choices : 1. Leave them from jail 2. Take public poll and neglect 150 people or take commando action. I know its very hard to say the secondone . But Its our India integrity issue.

Message: Look at this situation in a different perspective. Lets go back to the situation of Golden temple siege which happened during Indra Gandhi regime. The then PM ordered to bulldoze the temple and use the force. And the repurcussions were multifold. That decision made the entire sikh community stand against Hindus and Indira had to secrifice her life. That was not the end but infact the begining of a bloody war against sikhs on the streets of capital for several days and wounds of it are still fresh. It was said that Bhindranwala was the creation of Congress and if that was true then the killing of so many sikhs was a very well planned attempt by the then government. Now if the hijackers are able to blow the plane killing people on board then imagine the situation. Media has already very well established news that hijackers are so called musilim millitants. Now take a look at how present government is handling the situation. They didnt reacted when the plane was in Amritsar, they didnt tried to intercept the plane when it was going out of country's boundry, they didnt reacted for 2 full days after it was landed in Khandhar and one person has been killed instead they indulged in mudslinging. Then they send moak negotiators who had no powers - no agenda. And now the media and govt - hand in hand - are trying to build a mass support of non-negotiation(similar to what Indira Gandhi did in Golden Temple). Do I still have to point specifically what would be the post hijack situation for minorities in India. Doesn't it look like a major conspiracy which is beyond the comprehension of lay man. Hats of to the government.
