Message: No, he should not be left, but government must should compell Azhar himself to issue a favourable appeal instead.side wise goverment must, by hook or crook, prepare the pakistan/afganistan to mediate in process otherwise threat them to expose in world community that has started responding to the situation.

Message: While there have been serious lapses in security and handling of the situation, which everyone knows, I want to ask our Indian self proclaimed champions of human rights as to why they are quiet and not saying anything. They used to beat their chest and condemn Indian government on anti-terrorist operations in J&K and Punjab while they knew fully well that the terrorists were working at the behest of Pakistan. People like former PM Gujaral even wanted one sided tolerance by India. His type always condemned India at intellectual fora for being negative about Pakistan. Why are Rajinder Sacchar, Kuldip Nayyar, Khushwant Singh and Gujaral quiet now. If they consider themselves to be conscious keeper of this country, then is it not their duty to come out open and condemn these human rights violations of innocent people by Paki backed terrorists. Where are they hiding now.

Message: Some times the tiger takes a foot back before atacking its prey, similarly I feel we (like tigers) should give the militants what they want to save the lives of the 160 hostages. and may be wait for the right oppn' to catch or kill the BASTARDS behind this act.

Message: The terrorist in question should not be released and instead should be shot dead in an encounter as the police in Mumbai do. The passengers should be released from the clutches of the hijackers without further loss of life or injuries to anybody. It is high time for the Indian Govt to act like pro's. Some of the people here would like to know the credibility of the team that has been sent to resolve the crisis. These people should take full responsibility to solve this issue amicably. Also it is the duty of the Indian govt to form a crack team for all kinds of situations and be ready for any kind of eventuality. It is highly unfortunate that the govt has still not woken up to meet the challenges of terrorism in the country. The police and the security forces still rely upon the age old weapons while the terrorists force their way with highly sophisticated weapon systems. Unless the govt sets right these disparities in the security forces, these kind of incidents continue to happen and it will become a greater threat to the national security and integrity.

Message: I think we should not release the Terrorist at any cost. The lives of 160 people are invaluable. But an exchange now will prompt more hijacks and increases the risk of people travelling in any Airlines in the world. The government may also seek to take steps towards incresing security by taking into considerations the steps taken by Israel etc.

Message: The Government has to do something exceptional to save the lives of the passengers and also see that Maulana Masood is not released. Is this only possible on the screen/in Movies? What would the GOvt do if some Govt official like the PM or any minister was ione among the passenger.

Name: G K ARORA
Email: linkers@vsnl.com
Message: It is a critical lose-lose situation for the govt. If they don't release the terrorist it can endanger the lives of 160 people on board. And if it releases the terrorist it will not only be a national shame but also the said terrorist can cause 1600 or even 16000 people to be killed later. I feel the way Taliban has responded of late it is worth showing a little patience and explore military option.

Message: I'd like to know why is it that Maulana Masood, a hardcore terrorist is still after 5 years. There is always a chance of criminals holding the country to ransom for the release of such criminals. Why can't such terrorists be tried and then sentenced to death at the earliest or killed in fake encounters? Releasing Maulana may not be such a good idea, but under the circumstances it may be the only choice as the passengers our by now thoroughly drained from mental & physical stress and the governments decision to wear out the hijackers by talking, may not be such a good idea as it may lose a few lives if action is not taken immediately. May Almighty give them and their relatives courage to bare this ordeal.

Message: I have read messages and realized that patriots think alike. I understand the feelings/torture of the people on board and their family members. GOI should sincerely try to release them but not to release this rascal azhar. It was shameful on our part for releasing the daughter of another rascal. Let us not repeat. Let us be tough in protecting the Indian glory. Teach them a fitting lesson, no matter if we have to sacrfice few hundred people more. The biggest mistake is rearing these poisonous snakes in jails. I did not understand why these snakes are allowed to live? Cut them horozontally with AK 47, pack them nicely present it to those hijackers. That is only the best I think.

Message: First of all we need to see why this has happened. All the staff responsible for letting these terrorists take all the arms and ammunitaion on board (in exchange of what, money ? ) should be hung o the wall of LAL KILA and should be mercilessly biten to death, by everyone, epsecially the hostages realtives. I am confident, they are willing to do that

These creatures don't deserve to live on the holy ground if India

Talking about Maulana Masood, if the country can exchange terrorist(s) for a politician;s daughter, then in the democracy, people have right to think alike, executing their freedom. This guy should be exchanged and later indian army, commandos or whoever not willing to accept bribe and do something good for this country, should get these all on bullets and make them history, kill them and ground to pieces

may god bless all the hostages and give courage to their relatives to take this strongly

Message: No, certainly the previous Government made a mistake by releasing the terrorists for the daughter of Mufti Md. Saiyeed, there by creating a bad precedence. But there should be an end to this nonsense. At no cost should Maulana Massod be released because that will trigger the killing of hundreds of innocent people in the Kashmir Valley. Peoples' lives are the most importatnt thing, anyway. Some intelligent way (example : Israel) should be devised in order to free the hostages on board and without affecting the national security.

Message: I do not think so. They should not release him. Instead from now on any terrorist caught should be executed immediately so that there is an end to such hijacking. Na rahega baans na bajegi bansuri - a famous saying. Such an attitude would also force terrorists to think twice before attempting any heinous crimes. We have to take a tough stance against these people - they are inhuman and should be treated that way only.

Message: I would like the press to focus on the long term security needs of our country. In my opinion they are: 1) A crackdown on corruption - If the government does not make a sincere attempt to cleanse public life, the common man will always suffer. 2) An immediate revamp of our intelligence agencies. We have been let down twice this year by our intelligence agencies. 3)The present government is making attempts to rid the country of its the 'soft target'image. This needs to be encouraged but this has to be achieved by sound, coherent and consistent Domestic and International policies. R.S.Kannan Singapore

What is intriguing is that how is this guy Azhar still alive, 4 years after being captured?

Message: The coverage about the hijacking incidence has been excellent. As a citizen of India, I have a suggestion that we can exchage the passengers on the hijacked flight for some of the socalled political heavy-weights : 1. Lalloo Prasad Yadav 2. Mulayam Singh Yadav 3. Sharad Yadav. 4. Rabri Devi. 5. Mayawati. 6. Kanshiram. 7. Ram Vilas Paswan 8. George Fernandes 9. Pramod Mahajan. 10. Balasaheb Thackeray. These politicians can be exchaged for all the passengers and the crew member aboard the hijacked flight. If the list shows very few names ... more can be arranged. I strongly belive that this is the best solution available for saving the ill-fated passengers aboard.

Message: What is the government doing?? It has showed that it is still capable of the bufoonery that took place a few months back during the Kargil crisis. Why such a delay in dealing with these issues? Why was a junior diplomat sent to delegate with the hijackers when the Ambassador for India in Pakistan was supposed to go? It seems that whenever events like these take place, the government takes a lifetime to get off their backsides and address these issues which demand immediate, if not priority, consideration and an effective solution. Should the government release Maulana Masood....yes, because I don't feel that the delegation team that has been sent to negotiate with the hijackers are capable of coming to any favourable conclusion...release Maulana Masood if it means that this episode will not stretch into the new year...because we are well aware that with a government like that this, that is very possible.

From the way the terrorists entered the plane, the way the plane was allowed to take off from Amritsar, the lack of response from anybody in the givernment for 2 days, and the way the relief plane went half way and came back are all part of a comic-trgedy that our nation has become!

Message:True, it has been a tragic episode with the loss of a life and added with the great uncertainty with 150-odd passengers still on board under the worst conditions. True, the Goverment might have bungled in the crisis Management whether or not the flight should have been allowed to take off at Amritsar. But the matter having precipitated to that extent, there is no point crying foul on the Government, which has to deal with the hijackers sheltered in a country which is not recognised by India in the first place as a Government at all! To work out the strategy for safe retrieval of the passengers under the circumstances not compromising India's foriegn policy is a challenge that Government had to undertake. Hence there has been a delay in getting in starting the negotiations for release. The Government's efficiency is another matter. We are looking at its sincierity of purpose here. In any case, the release of the captured terrorist Maulana Masood is certainly out of the question as it will set a very bad precedence. The anguish by the relatives of the passengers is understandable, but not their demand to release Maulana Masood to somehow end the crisis. Supposing the Government decides to release the captive, is it going to end such acts in future? Certainly no! On the contrary, having smelled victory, the terrorists will be tempted to resort to such acts whenever one of them is arrested. Let's face it. Tragedy comes to man in many unforeseen forms. We don't normally make fuss about it except to mourn for some time and get back to normal work. There is no tragedy as yet(except for Mr. Katyal)that has happened. Positively looking, we can look at the passengers as a battalion of soldiers who have unknowingly pledged their lives for a national cause. We all pray that they come back from this battle safe. Message: The terrosrists do not have the guts to kill 150 passengers, come what may. Basically jihaad and Kashmiri freedom are all bull, they are a group of paid fellows funded by Pakistan and all their Islamic brethren. I would suggest a solution, the sword is hot as they say in hindi "talwaar garam ha". Settle with Pakistan issues once and for all. We have had enough of them. Tell Pakistan in front of UN officials, broadcast in official terms that if the terrorists touch any one of our passengers, we will make you pay heavily for it. Let US, UK, Russia and China also acknowledege. The bastards cannot do a thing. The will automatically release the soldiers. Tell this in very clear terms to Pakistan. Make them responsible for the situation, that is the diplomatic solution.

Rather it should act tough with the hijackers and tell them if they harm any passenger then Maulana Masood Azhar will be hanged very next day and also the hundreds of foreign mercinaries including Pakistani terrorists held in Indian jails will be publicly hanged. It is rather surprising that Azhar held in captivity since 1995 has not been convicted by TADA court. What we are trying to prove to the world by incurring heavy costs for keeping alive these dreadful creatures at the risk of innocent Indians. When our judiciary will understand its responsibilty. The wrong examle has already been set for the release of Rubia Gandhi, so at present this is the case of more than 150 lives. For future govt. should make a policy of killing the millitants as soon as they are arrested either in encounter or some other way so that this sort of situation does not arise at all. Message: We have already made a big blunder by setting a precedent as in the case of Mohammed Arif's daughter. We should not let anyone free in exchange. This is the only way hijackings can be reduced. The inaction of the government has turned out to be a blessing in disguise otherwise had we established immediate negotiations it would have been difficult to test their (hijacker's) resolve. None of their demands should be met immediatley. There should be a lot of dilly dallying before any demand is met. For this the negotiators have an upper hand : 1) hijackers are aware of the poor communications - so we can have lots of delays 2) hijackers are aware of the poor local facilities - so the negotiators can feign difficulty in procuring required materials. 3) both the above and other reasons are excellent for asking for "more time". 4) the longer it can be dragged it is better for the negotiators and bad for the hijackers. But care should be taken to ensure that when the hijackers reach the breaking point they TRUST the negotiators and start cooperating. This is very important : the negotiators should build TRUST with the hijackers otherwise there is no way. It doesnt need a degree or experience to say thhat this is the only way out. Pure common sense. thanks dom

What Mrs. Ahuja yesterday stated was really very very true. I do apologise for the relatives, because if I would have been in their shoes I would have also done the same, but ..... Anyway I hope that the government should not release Maulana Masood and also see to it that the passnagers are not harmed. I wish Best of Luck to the Indian Government. I love rediff site because it gived me fresh and latest information. Thank you & bye..

Message: I feel the government should not keep in jail the terrorists who are nabbed. They should be killed. Time has come for every INDIAN to realise that Pakistan is a terrorist country. The country should with all patience tide over this crisis. The government should now launch a commando attack with Taliban permission. Pray to God for the safe return of our people on IC 814. Also pray to God for giving the country all strength to tide over this crisis.

Message: The indian govt needs to act in a very diplomaticc fashion and not just hope that the crisis will get over by just not doing anything. They need to do everything , which means free whoever they want , if there is no choice but on the other hand try their contacts with westerna countries and russia and other friendly countries to pressurize the hijackers. We call ourselves a friendly country , so we should have some good friends in the world.

Message: I believe that releasing Masood would set a bad precedent which is something the state can ill-afford at a time when things appear to be easing up a bit.Besides as far as lives of Indian Citizens is considered it would be grossly unfair to forget the numerous faceless jawans & civilians who directly or indirectly lost their lives as a result of the activies of Masood & his outfit.Of course as a fellow Indian & a human one cannot but empathise with the relatives of the victims. But as a nation the current situation demands exemplary fortitude & personal bravery by many of us.Meanwhile we all pray that we are able to welcome the new Millenium with our unlucky brethren in the plane.

Message: Regarding the Release of Maulana Masood ,Our Government Shouldn't Release Him,B'cos In future if any other people will hijack some other plane, then they will demand for some other thing , So it shouldn't happen . Yes the passengers in the plane are to be considered Each person[Life] in the plane are more precious,So we have two options, 1,We shouldn't accept their demands. 2,Why not we go for"Guerila" Attack. If iam in the place of our prime minister Definately i Will do this. B'cos We wont loose our respect in the world. In future also This will be a lesson for others,So that no one can think of doing it. Message: NO. Because a country of 1 billion cannot bow down before a team of five cowards. And how do we account for the lives of our brave soldiers at Kargil?? Were their lives not precious enough? Moreover the militancy in Kashmir got a shot in the arm, after the release of 5 militants for the life of one Rubina Sayeed. Do we continue the trend???

Message: Why dont people understand a simple thing that releasing the mentioned millitant may not solve this problem. These people will demand for more and more people released once we agree to this. Again another plane may be hijacked on the same trends and another set of demands will come. What should be done is to find out the source of the problem. It cannot be just few people who can mastermind such international scale terrorism. There are political and international communities linked to it. India need to find it out and punish them accordingly so hard that they never dare to look up to India. Apart from this about the passangers, would this have been the same case if the Kargil war would have been going on and millitants would have hijacked the plane and asked india to surrender to pakistan in exchange of the hostages ? This is very unfortunate about the relatives of the flight and everybody sympathise with them. Even people here in UK are glued to the radio and TV sets to get the latest reports here. Everyone is praying that they get released. But shall we make a nation of 100 million people bow down infront of such non humanitarian forces. If we do it once remember they will repeat it everytime. When people refer to the case of the ministers daughter release please remember that situations are different. There has been decisions which were taken by corrupted politicians in their favour. But shall we continue the same trend and take our country still low. I think we should set an example infront of the world by fighting out this problem and making the lives of these terrorists a hell besides settling this issue.

Message: The security adviser to GoI Mr. Brijesh Mishra is the person to be blamed. This person gets extension to his career and does nothing! The were no adequate precautions taken when Osama- bi-laden declared jehad against India. There should have been be a standard operationg procedure which is mandatory to be followed no matter who is on the hijacked plane and no matter what are the hijackers' demands. This incident should be eye opener to us and we should take concrete steps towards Nasional Security.

Message: There's no question of releasing, that joke of a human being. The question is do we as a nation bend our knees before terrorism? The plight of the passengers and their relatives is understandable, but if we want to prevent more such incidents, we need to act tough. Ofcourse, the government is on a weak ground, having set a bad (and stupid) precedent in the Rubaiyya Sayyed case.

Message: I would like to tell the relatives of the passengers that : 1.) Please do not press for the release of Maulana Masood, because he is a very dreaded terrorist who,I heard, had masterminded the Kashmir conflict. 2.) What gaurantee do you have that after the release of Masood, the 150 passengers will be freed? You can't say anything about the mindframe of such inhumane terrorists. 3.) Finally if we release Masood, won't it harm the dignity of the country?Won't India go down in the international framework?Terrorist activities will increase, especially against India. So please do not press for the release of Masood and excuse me for my second point which i feel is very harsh but essential.

Message: Although it might be encouraging for terrorists worlwide , if India releases Maulana Masood in exchange for the hostages in IC 814, I think the lives of hostages ( majority being Indians ) should be valued more than anything else and hence the release be carried out in order to secure the hostages. My heart goes out for all those family members and friends of all those affected by the hijack crisis. If after 6 or 7 days , the govt is thinking about the release , they should do it right away and prevent further breakdown of mental and physical health of the hostages inside the plane.

I only wonder whether the Govt or the Opposition would have been so slow if any of their kith or kin was in that plane ?

My heart goes out for all those family members , relatives and friends who are through this traumatic ordeal. May GOD be with you and pray for the safe return of all those still in the plane.
