Dara Singh joins BJP

Wrestler-turned-film star Dara Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party today.

Talking to reporters at a press conference addressed by BJP vice-president Madan Lal Khurana, Dara Singh said though he had campaigned for his friends belonging to various parties this was the first time he had become a member of any political party.

Khurana, who is contesting the Lok Sabha election from Delhi Sadar, described as a ''poll stunt'' Sonia Gandhi's apologies for the demolition at Ayodhya and Operation Bluestar at Amritsar.

He wondered why she had not apologised for the mass killings during the 1984 riots in the wake of the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi.

An apology was also due from her ''for the ruination of the country'' by the Congress which had ruled the country since Independence except for a few years, he said.

Holding the Congress and the United Front ''collectively guilty of pushing the country into the quagmire of instability,'' the BJP leader said the need of the hour was a stable government.
