TNCC chief calls for ban on RSS

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K V Thangabalu today demanded a ban on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which he said might even have been involved in the Coimbatore serial blasts that killed over 60 people recently.

Speaking at the Madras Press Club, he said the RSS was behind various violent incidents that caused tension all over the country. All such anti-social organisations should be banned, he said.

Asked whether he thought the Inter-Services Intelligence of Pakistan had a hand in the blast, Thangabalu said Prime Minister I K Gujral had accused the ISI of being involved in the blasts and he had no reason to disbelieve the prime minister.

Thangabalu blamed the Tamil Nadu government and the state police force for Coimbatore blasts and said action should be taken against all those involved, irrespective of caste or religion.

He also saw a political design in the blast, claiming it was intended to dent the Congress's electoral prospects, which he claimed had brightened following Sonia Gandhi's visit.

Asked whether the Congress would seek the support of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam if his party was in a position to form the next government with support from others, Thangabalu said his party hoped to capture power on its own.
