Jayanti Patnaik gets Rao's Orissa seat

The Congress on Monday fielded Jayanti Patnaik, wife of Orissa Chief Minister J B Patnaik from the Berhampur Lok Sabha constituency which was earlier represented by former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao.

Rao was denied a ticket by Congress president Sitaram Kesri, holding him responsible for the demolition of the Babri Masjid.

Mustafiz Ahmed has been nominated by the party as its candidate from Cuttack.

Gajender Singh Rajukheri is the Congress nominee for the Dhar Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh.

The party has also released the list of its candidates for the 68-member Himachal Pradesh assembly. Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh will contest from Rohru constituency. Candidates for three seats -- Santokgarh, Thural and Dharmshala -- are to be decided by the chief minister and the PCC president.
